Great to see him at the coal face and really taking it up.

Unfortunately it's an unavoidable pressure, which just can't afford for Will to stagnant, leaving the club open to be hounded reletentlessly by the doomsayers like Cornes that we muffed it by not taking Logan.

Unfair on Phillips, but pick 3 needs to work for us in this rebuild. More of what we saw tonight, and over a period of games, will be a big step forward for the list build

Just not sure he’ll ever rise to the level of LDU.

Wardlaw outshone him and it was his first game off an even worse fitness base.

LDU, Simpkin, Wardlaw, Sheezel…

He’s not replacing any of them long term.

Yes, those four players are better than him right now. That not necessarily a problem.

Good thing there are 22+1 spots in the team. WP is still building his fitness too. Give him another 30 games and I’m sure we’ll see him having massive influence in the guts.

Add to this to the fact that his kicking, especially inside 50 is rolled gold.

I’m more worried about TP who has actually had three preseasons to build his fitness.

It is insofar as those four should get bulk midfield minutes.

Phillips simply doesn’t have the flexibility to play elsewhere.

He's going to be the glue in our midfield. Love his unselfish, team-first attitude he brings. A lot of unrewarded running, defensive pressure and tap-ons that don't show up on the stat sheet. He's been a bit fumbly in recent weeks but one of his best traits is his cleanliness. I put his issues in this area down to fitness and confidence levels.

Still doesn't have the fitness base he needs to have to be consistent - didn't touch the ball in the 4th quarter yesterday as a result.

Imagine when he and Wardlaw are actually match fit?

Just had a look through his game from yesterday and his hardness stood out big time which for me is a sign he's growing in confidence. For those who watch back, check out the 3rd quarter with 2:30 left in particular.

For some reason, it seems Will won’t reach peak fitness til he’s 33.

I know the fitness and touches arent there just yet but what were going to get from Will is that tough contested never say die midfielder.

25 games in. Lets just get some continuity now. Same as GW. Were not going to have a midfield of bitches with Jy, Will and Wardlaw running through there. Sheezel, Thomas and LDU will provide the speed and class.

Notice one thing about all 6. You cant say any of them are slow. This is the new breed of modern midfielder. Able to win the hard ball and surge away from contest.
