My other half looks like she is going to beat Brest cancer . What they did with the Parish contract really is minor stuff on the scale of things .
Footy spin is footy spin . Happens at all clubs . Think it was more media spin than Essendon spin . Until there is a system that is transparent across the comp it will continue to happen.
Well that’s absolutely great news and I wish you both the best

You can not complain about change and then simply say why vote. At least if you vote you have done everything you can . If people actually wanted a revolution they could easily band together and have enough voters to get someone on the board rather than just allowing the situation to retain its normal status . I vote every time . May no end up as anything but I do my bit .
If it came down to a vote I suspect Parish would have got 10 years 😛
I used to vote when I was a member. Back then a five year deal was a five year deal and a general manger of list and recruiting resigning from their position used to mean they would step away and not be involved in list management and recruiting.

Not all members even activate their voting rights so it would hardly be the case that the members are on the hook for anything. Fitzroy members did not have to pay Naru anything.
According to the constitution you're on the hook for about $10 each.

But each human can only be a club member once... so when you buy an AFL membership, and an AFLW membership, and a pet membership, you only get one vote, even if the statistics count it as three members.

Ears pricked up and hair stood on end when it was discovered Parish had signed a 42 year deal. Been off their food ever since...

The club lying to (ok, misleading) its members and supporters is pretty poor. If it is a straight up 6 year deal there really is no excuse for treating your membership base with such utter contempt. Doesn't seem to be the first time either. X's contract was extended in the shadows, we all just found out that actually Shiel is contracted for a year longer than anyone knew.

The real concern for me though is that the only reason for them to do this kind of thing is out of fear of criticism from bottom feeders in the football media like Cornes et al. That's the level of insecurity of those running our club. That doesn't fill me with confidence that they'll do the best thing for the club when it might be a tough sell or not have the best optics.

So can someone talk me through this.

Is it a five year contract with really easy triggers for six or just a flat out six year?

Parish pens new deal
Bombers ball magnet locks in new contract.

May 18 2023

Darcy Parish will don the sash until at least 2028 after putting pen to paper on a new contract.

The 26-year-old midfielder has recommitted to the Bombers after being one of the AFL’s top free agents this year.

A key cog in the Bombers' midfield, Parish said the potential of the Bombers' list was influential in him committing to the club.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be a Bomber for life. I’m fully committed to this club and always will be for them giving me a chance to live out my dream,” Parish said.

“I have so much belief in this playing group, Brad Scott and our coaches and what we can achieve. I want to be a part of that.”

Parish joins Zach Merrett, Mason Redman and Peter Wright in committing to the Bombers until at least the end of 2027.

The Geelong Falcons product has played 150 games since being selected by Essendon with pick No.5 in the 2015 National Draft.

Bursting onto the scene and immediately making an impact, Parish made his debut in round one of 2016, before putting in a performance worthy of a NAB Rising Star Nomination in his second game.

Since then, Parish has gone on to establish an impressive resume across his eight seasons, with 2021 being a standout year where he earned All Australian selection, was named the runner-up at the Crichton Medal, while also taking home the Anzac Day Medal, Yiooken Award and Tom Wills Medal.

Across his 18 games this season, Parish is ranked as one of the elite midfielders in the AFL, placing first in average centre clearances per game, second in inside 50s per game and equal third in disposals per game.

For Parish, the privilege of playing in front of and representing the red and black army is the most motivating factor.

“Thank you to the Bomber faithful for sticking by me. We love the energy and support you provide this team and I’m grateful for your unwavering support,” Parish said.

“The best is yet to come for this team and I'm really looking forward to the future and where we can get to.

“We’ve got plenty of work to do but we’re all excited by the challenge and bringing success to Essendon.”

GM of List and Recruiting Adrian Dodoro said the new deal reflects the midfielder's status in the game.

"We are thrilled to have Darcy commit to the club until at least 2028. His signature is a great endorsement for the direction the club is heading, and the vision has been validated by our two stars, Parish and Redman. This is a really strong moment for our whole club," Dodoro said.

"Over his career, Darcy has demonstrated how dangerous he can be throughout our midfield and will be a key pillar of our side for years to come. But we believe his best football is ahead of him and we look forward to seeing that growth.

"This deal is a testament to Darcy and how much he loves Essendon and his commitment to seeing the club succeed."

Okay.

So it is the use of the word 'end' that is the tricky part.

Knowing our club I can actually see this as not being tricky but more just being incompetent and not knowing how to count.

I wonder whether it is like a spouse sneaking around while cheating.

The cheat sneaks around because he knows he is doing the wrong thing.

It is our fault for not picking up on "at least " 2028 :p
Not sure how the news hounds did not jump on the wording a bit earlier. They are usually all over that type of stuff.
