Player Watch #3: Dion Prestia Re-Signed for 2025

As I have said, Prestia has not had a full or anywhere near pre-season in four years, prove me wrong and have one.
It's his fans' most often-used defence, but it gets tired when you realise that the chances of that happening are remote.
So, while he played well today ... finally ..... you question why we are paying $800,000 for a beaten up bloke who does not do full-pre seasons and doersn't play anywhere near 22 games?
You summed it up, he's been 'passable'. He is not there to be 'passable' he is there, as probably the second highest paid bloke in the joint, to perform as such and he hasn't.
And no we are not just paying for 2017, but that doesn't mean he doesn't need to give us value.
As I said, well done on a great game, back it up!! Do it again!!
yes but im not prepared to write him off just for a below par season from what he did for gcs. despite him not being as good as he was when he was at gcs this year he has been good for our structure and freeing up martin and cotch.

i will judge him more over the next few years but as of today he is best 22 for us. with regards to his price, you have to pay overs these days to prise players away from clubs its the way the world works these days, look at soccer and neymar. if you really want a player you have to go a bit extra for them to leave usually except for some cases. for me prestia adds to our midfield depth and he has the ability to still become a A grade in the next few years. thus i am prepared to give him a chance

anyway you have your opinion, but no need to shove it down someones throat, we can agree to disagree or whatever, just be happy we are winning!

Reckon that's his best game for the club. Got a lot in the first half to help set up the win and the only crap kick that comes to mind was a goal. That's the sort of game that justifies a trade like that.

As most people who have questioned the trade have said, if he can be fit and play to his best we'll ALL be happy.

Today when Martin and Cotchin in particular were ineffective early on Prestia among others who was winning clearances and helping drive the ball forward. This is what some have said we need to have happen for Prestia to be of value. The 2 games before the week off were stepping stones to todays performance. Many have tried to say that Prestia was coming good and the naysayers continued to pot him. Even now after 31 disposals 13 contested possessions 5 marks 7 clearances 6 tackles and a goal no doubt he will still be potted by some who said that they would have no issue in praising him when he plays well.

Was bloody good today.

And I'm a hater.

Mitchell still had 30+ and a goal but had almost zero influence on the game. This was due to Prestia and the manic pressure that the whole team delivered.

Almost, almost, almost our first full 4 quarter effort.

Geez it will be sweet if the planets align and we absolutely smash the cats at their sh!tty suburban ground next week.....

Well done Dion, great game.

Also word to the wise.

Tiger Imposter has a bad track record of potting good players. Luke Ryan who played VFL for his club, he claimed he was not up to it rah rah when drafted.

Luke Ryan is already an elite intercepting half-back under 10 games in.

I have him blocked so won't see his response, but take his comments with a grain of pepper.

Chips on shoulder etc.

Go Tigs, go Dion
You're behaving like an imbecile as Luke Ryan has shown some good signs to this stage and I will also add I stated that his game wasn't suited to what we wanted as floating hbf were a dime a dozen in our side. I always stated his ability to read the ball in flight was excellent and his marking was his other strength. I criticised him for his lack of intensity and floating helicopter kicks and if these could be corrected he would be serviceable, but I didn't want him based on our needs .he was still available at Jack Graham's pick so a big mouthed expert like you should have worked out what was needed by the club. Or are you suggesting the club got it wrong and should have went for Ryan?
Going back onto the thread , Prestia was ok today and this is about what the average base we should be expecting from him and not the bs excuses about him running 16km chasing the oppositions best players considering the investment we put into him.
I'm glad you've manned up and shown your expertise on how you've got it right over three decades. The closet experts are out in force over one game where the opposition had one notable midfielder.

**** me some of you are embarrassing. All this haters talk like he is your own kid. We paid pick 6 for Prestia and potentially up to 800k a season for him and so far he hasn't delivered. How hard is that to admit without making bullshit excuses for him? Todays game is the Prestia who is worth that type of investment but he needs to deliver kind of performance regularly before we can say we paid a fair price.

Once again, if he's not delivering why is he our 4th ranked in the coaches votes?

Good game and yes, very important that someone else stands up in the middle if Dusty and Cotch aren't winning it. That's what we got him for, so glad to see him deliver. Hope that's just the start from him.

His kicking is still unbelievable though, even that goal he slotted did not spin right at all!

I couldn't care less about coaches votes. The performances of Prestia over the course of the season have not been close to standard that he has previously set at Gold Coast which helped determine his trade value and overall cost. All the stats back it up and it's clear as day when watching. Performances like today only justify what I and others have been saying since the start of the season.

Mitchell had 35 touches for 140 metres gained.... ball chasing crab...

Probably because he's had a few games at a very high level and you don't lose votes for being rubbish.

This thread is going to be very tedious if it gets bumped every time he plays awesome or shit.

Was very good today. Hopefully keeps it up.
