I know a few of the drinkers at the Limerick, the pub the original post quoted, and the North boys have been in there a bit lately and they have said he is definitely finished at North.

Since the op I've had many dicsussions with the old man and he has at times been pretty angry that I don't believe him. We are from the country and work in Melbourne occasionally so meeting one of our players was a big deal to him. As I said earlier I am curious to see whether we try and trade him as he may have some currency before he is delisted or retires. Either way sheeds will snap him up IMO.

No. Posting on a public forum is shit. If you want players to clam up and give routine answers when you do get the chance to have a chat then go ahead, make public everything they say in confidence. But if you want them to treat you like a human, then maybe think twice about telling the world player X has been delisted 'with certainty'.

Doesn't it make you wonder why he back tracked on his word after he was asked this the following days after this thread popped up?

Decisions were made weeks ago, let the club work out when the right time to announce something as sensitive as this. Maybe they thought Pratty deserved a bit of respect in the way they announced to the world his services are no longer required?

That's fair enough and a well worded warning to others to consider what you broadcast. Plenty of us have been privvy to info about North at times that has been better off kept to ourselves.

However in JZTime's defence, I think he was excited getting a bit of inside word and also probably figured if Pratt is throwing this info out so readily that it was practically public anyway. Live and learn.

That's one vote for the clam option then is it? great.
Bearded?

Nope, I think the players should be able to have a chat with supporters and not fear that what they say will be broadcast for public consumption if that information is in any way sensitive. Sure, Pratty might have been wise to keep mum on this but so too should have the OP.

As KC says, live and learn.

It is my first ever thread might stick to the norm on here of player bashing expert analysis :p

Its not hard to keep your lips zipped either. I know something that im not supposed to tell anyone about the club (nothing important) have known for about 3 weeks and I havent told a soul. And no i wont tell you guys, its not that important, seriously.

That's a very good post, and leads me to feel some regret over this thread, where the information was similarly obtained.

On the other hand, though, disclosing private information to a stranger, and expecting the secret to be kept, is a little naive.

is it good news or bad news?

I'm no angel, I leaked a bit on the reasons behind a certain delisting last year, have wisened up a bit since though. I guess I was filled with rage because I knew it would set the club back a bit and 12 months later I was right because there is no way we would be contemplating using a 1st round pick on Gunston if that unwanted delisting hadn't occurred.

Neutral, like I said its really unimportant.

In 'good' news though, BoomerRoo messages me this morning and told me that Bellerive now has a naming rights sponsor, its also all over the news.

Blundstone (sp?) - the boots people.

Jacky Z and Leon Greenhead will be wearing steel caps into games next year.

I didn't realize Pratty had said it "in confidence" . I would have thought, if he was telling a drunk stranger in a pub then he was making it public knowledge (unless of course he used the come of silence). It was Pratt's decision to make it public, if he wanted a respectful announcement he should have kept his mouth shut.

There are sometimes when the players should stick to the "yep, nah, all good" answers.

If a public figure someone says something in a pub it is generally considered fair comment.

I assume you're talking about NO'K. I think it's pretty well understood that in the circumstances, delisting was the only outcome (I'm not suggesting you're saying otherwise). But he certainly hasn't set the world on fire since his departure, so I reckon it's a fair bet to say Gunston would be ahead of him. Not that we need Gunston, IMO.

You've done nothing wrong mate, Pratt made this public himself and if there is any problem with that he's responsible.

If you're a journo.

I think it holds true though: if someone tells you something in a pub and doesn't specifically say "Keep this under your hat" or "You're a member, I'll tell you but don't go repeating it" it is fair to think its fairly widespread knowledge I reckon.
