Was.

He is seriously at the crossroads more than ever, and if he can't pull his finger out for the remaining 12 or so games, if he's selected, then he will struggle to find a new home let alone find good form.

He's just turned 26 which makes him still a youngster in ruckman terms.

I seriously dunno wtf we can do with him because even if he kicks 2-3 goals per week it's the other stuff that he does or doesn't do that is the problem.

This is the problem, when David doesn't get the ball (which is most of the time), it virtually guarantees a turnover to the opposition as he is useless once the ball hits the deck.

I suppose it's worth a try but then who gets kicked outta the ruck?

No one, he needs to go back to the seconds and refresh himself with ruck play again. If a spot becomes open due to injury or poor form then he gets his spot back........as a ruckman!

People shouldn't be too eager in ditching Hale for whatever they can get as I think he would comfortably be the best club ruckman that isn't being played in that position.

If we can get a reasonable trade for David, then that is good and well, if not, then we should keep him on our list as a good back up ruckman.

As a 27 year old backup ruckman, he should be paid in the range of about 28th to 32nd on the list. He is not. Would be in the Top 15 even Top 10 in our list in terms of payment.

On current form not worthy of that spot at that price, I'd rather bank the money and get another kid with the spot.

As a 27 year old backup ruckman,

26 mate, he turned 26 a fortnight ago.

That's not his fault.

That's very good, but how do you propose to get around the contractual obligation?

I'm taking about next year, "as a back up ruckman"

Didn't say it was his fault, he has done a great job in getting whatever he gets, I'm stating that what we should pay a "back up ruckman"

We get what we get for him, to get him off the list, Doesn't matter if its pick 90. Otherwise its turning into another David Bourke, us paying for him to be elsewhere. If we can't get anything for him then we have good/overpaid Werribee/Nth Ballarat Ruckman/Forward whom will only hurt the progress of players that we want to play, Black, O'Keefe, Tarrant, Kennedy, Majak and whomever we draft next year.

David is the player who's best game win's us 4 or 5 matches a year, lets hope he can turn it around and play as the #1 Key Forward we pay/want him to be. But as a backup he is too old and too much.

no.....the only winner from that is North

I encourage you to take a look at Zach Smith, who is and will be the GCs premier ruckman.
David Hale may benefit from a change of club..recycling players is an artform at new franchise clubs..but without knowing what he's getting at the moment..it's still hard to imagine anyone thinking he's earning it.
So it's perplexing to see people think he's worth anything in addition to his current contract.ie a draft pick
In my opinion North will be happy to let him go unless he comes good in the last half of the season.
Seriously, the guy's looking at being delisted on current form.
Needs to reinvent himself somehow..and quickly

Still got another year after this year left on his contract so wont be getting delisted and im telling you will end up at Gold Coast

I have a pretty good line on his plans..and I agree he would like to be back on the Coast. His wife and he are both born and bred here, and they have a baby due later on in the year with no real family except his mum in Melbourne, and she'll probably be in Queensland next year too.
But wanting to return on your own terms and drifting back on a reduced contract..perhaps even performance based seems to be the best he can hope for at the moment.
I really hope he comes good though for North's and his..and maybe GCs sake in the future.
Guy McKenna Scott Clayton Malcom Blight and S Hart are the one's he has to convince.

Hale is a bloke who deserves an even break. why on earth we've got stuck into him so fiercely after we've just won a game, where he was returning from a back injury of all things, i just can't work out.

your backgrounder here convinces me further that the bloke deserves some more respect from North supporters. personally i'd rather have him in the team that maybe 50% of the other tall timber around the AFL. e.g who'd prefer Renouf? Simmonds? that pommie bloke from Adelaide?

You're overdoing the waffle.

He could end up being the GC's number 1 ruckman in 2012, and he would be a starting ruckman in several AFL sides right now.

I'm happy to keep him on the list as a ruckman if we were offered a pittance for him as a trade. The fact that he has got a pricey contract is more due to the incompetency of the football department. He would need to improve tenfold to keep the same contract next time.

Hi guys and girls

Sorry to jump onto your board but I got a mate who is a huge North Melbourne fan. He is adamant that Hawthorn will try and trade for one of your rucks at the end of the year. I hate the way Hawthorn trade and it disappoints me that we are spoken about the way we are when it comes to trade period especially the whole Josh Gibson and Shaun Burgoyne trade situations. However this friend asked me that say Hawthorn went after David Hale at the end of the year what would Hawthorn give for him and I was curious to hear from some North fans what you would want in return for one of your rucks.

I said Beau Dowler and Travis Tuck for David Hale and a late second round to third round draft pick.

Thoughts?
