YepAccording to Dodoro the stress fracture has healed beautifully...
Hopefully not at fusion stage yetZach Gumbleton unfortunately...hopefully has a change of luck
We really need to stop bypassing the club doctors
It is just a “stressy” in his spine. He’ll be fine!We really need to stop bypassing the club doctors
It’s a hard road back from a stress fracture in the spine. This is another setback for a kid who can’t get a decent run at it. He’s going to be a long way back when he can resume training because there is probably nothing he can do but rest it.It is just a “stressy” in his spine. He’ll be fine!
It's not a stress fracture though is it?It’s a hard road back from a stress fracture in the spine. This is another setback for a kid who can’t get a decent run at it. He’s going to be a long way back when he can resume training because there is probably nothing he can do but rest it.
Picking up Hayes in the draft is looking like an even better get.
I haven't read the article yet but the link just says 'stress' without the fractureIt's not a stress fracture though is it?
I was kind of taking the piss out of some of the stuff posted earlier in the thread. I only just read the article.I haven't read the article yet but the link just says 'stress' without the fracture
Is that like back 'awareness'
Edit: Okay read the article. Doesn't say fracture anywhere. The above question stands.

If was a stress fracture they wouldn’t be talking about de loading for a couple of weeks. It would be months. It's not a stress fracture though is it?

He's played 2 years ffs. He's also played 15 VFL games in that time.Averaging 4 games a season - do we think we can eeek out another 4 games in 2023? sadly he may well be another Gumby![]()
23 AFL and VFL games over 2 years, one of which was COVID interrupted. His major "injury" that made him miss games was glandular fever.Delist!
But seriously, it is a massive concern that Reid, Cox and Jones can't get on the field. And that's a chunk of our wannabe spine for the next decade.
3?Yep becoming a concern. The continuous back injuries isnt ideal
23 games in 3 years, mostly in the VFL
Well they barely kicked a footy in 2020
Glandular fever was the first issue. Set him back a long way. There is a body shape, both Reid and Cox have, that I think you seriously need to question early in a draft. It's almost a deal breaker, certainly part of the profile of a player I am happy to get wrong.
The narrow width and limbs only rig does not carry weight, certainly not that of a tall player, easily. It's not about getting to monster size, it's about carrying enough weight to develop into the sort of player the industry projects these guys will become when they are drafted.
Having said that it's all different issues, isn't it? Feet and back? Either way it's also a bit like young fast bowlers in that there will be problems growing into the body, for all talls. It's part of why they take so long to develop.
It's too early for panic.
It is pretty concerning how many key position players the club have drafted and had careers hampered or ruined by injuries in the past 15 years.
Gumby, Pears, Hurley, Carlisle, Daniher, Crameri.
Even Hooker lost a couple of seasons to back/hamstring issues and had to learn how to run again.
Now Jones, Reid and Cox are looking shakey.
I’ve read ant555 talk about the types of bodies we draft, and given how many different fitness staff have been through the club, I think he’s right.
I reckon its a bit disingenuous to lump Gumby and Pears together with Hurley, Carlisle, Daniher and Crameri. The latter 4 all had really good careers and will be regarded as anywhere from good to very good players over their careers. Probably Daniher is the only one who didn't reach his potential due to injury but those bad groin injuries can be quite tricky.
There are some concerning signs with Jones and Reid with their stress related injuries but they are quite young and still time to get over them as they mature. Cox I reckon isn't so bad - he just did an ankle last year after playing the entire first year fit. It'll just depend on whether he becomes prone to ankle injuries or if that was just an unfortunate once-off.
