I am not overly worried yet. Yes there are some concerns that he will be coming into his third season and there are still a lot of questions on a few fronts but his first year was a wipeout due to glandular fever so he is a year behind anyway. All I want to see next year is he builds up over pre season. Shows some VFL form and is looking like he is pressing for selection mid season. I know a lot have him in best 22 (23) but in reality he does not need to be at the start of next year. We are not top 4. It is doubtful we are top 8. The main thing is he plays 20 games of footy over both levels.

But seriously, it is a massive concern that Reid, Cox and Jones can't get on the field. And that's a chunk of our wannabe spine for the next decade.
I think we forget their young talls sometimes though.
in most clubs you generally give them the first two years as a development pass before you want to see them in the side

if we'd invested a little more in the spine since Knights, we'd probably be in a position to let these kids develop into their bodies and bring them in when the current incumbents in defence and up forward are ready for replacing.
one F/S fwd + one late draft speculative KPD before we drafted Jones, Cox, Reid, Eyre, Brand & Hayes.

How old was the rest of their defence around that first year KPD?

A good mix - Gibcus with mainly Tarrant, Broad, Balta, Grimes, Vlastuin & Short.

No real different to us.

Their average age 27.

Ours (Cutler, Ridley, Laverde, Kelly, Redman, BZT, Heppell) just over 26.

Remove Heppell who's playing on the wing and recalculate, remove Cutler who only covered injury and recalculate.

Then consider how many games those players remaining have played, and how many of them have been in defence.

Richmond's backline is far easier to play in as a young KPD than ours.

premiership backline no less
vs. one that has leaked scores for years.

Are they going to update us on Reid, or are we to assume it’s worst than they originally said. Almost mid February and he isn’t back to running yet.
Can not give you an official update but Saturday he just did 5 minutes of handball so it doesn’t look all the good right now. I doubt he is playing before mid season.

If I recall originally they said he would have a modified program for a few weeks. It’s been 2 months and all he’s doing is handballing. It would be great if afl clubs in general were much more transparent with how players are tracking. Is it much worse than first thought? Has he had a set back? Are they taking extra precaution? Not that hard to announce a simple update.

I remember training watchers saying that he was distraught after receiving news, but then they released a relatively mild prognosis. It didn’t really add up

More than handballing. Yet to do a full session however.

Maybe first month he misses.

Skinny talls with narrow shoulders - a pattern is starting to emerge. It’s a body type to be avoided I reckon.

Yep. Put a line through that, certainly in the top 15.

It's not just being thin. Danier, McKay and the Kings do not have powerhouse builds but the proportions are there.

It's proportions that don't looking like they can hold weight.

Skinny seems Ok when coupled with broad, square shoulders….it’s the size of the frame I think.

Gumby was the same - looked wider at the hips than across the shoulders.
