Really? I saw a preseason session up on the Gold coast a couple of years ago. Small Forwards had a huge 20 minute session goal kicking from the boundary at the end.
If Miller wasn't allowed to do it at the club he should be doing it in the local park.
Every game has a 5 th quarter. On the ground practice before the game.
Lots of goal kicking there too.
No excuse. Even a point would have been handy.
Can't remember which ex player it was. But he was critical of current players missing in front and it came down too practice (lack of).

I’ve heard similar but I think the context of the modern game is also important

Those old campaigners stayed in one position for 70% of the game especially full forwards and chf and didn’t even do 20% of the running modern players do

If they had to do the type of running players do today the accuracy of shots would be similar

Especially after the flood fest from Thursday. Saw Lynch in the back half of the ground as much as the forward. For him to kick the goals he did was ****ing miracle

Likewise for Jack and even Mansell who admittedly didn’t have the greatest outing but couldn’t fault the work rate of our forwards who all got involved at both ends of the ground and did massive amounts of work to get involved again in those movement chains

I don’t think the basics are the problem it’s dealing with the pressure. Rugby players seem to have a better percentage when taking set shot at goal More practice with someone standing on the mark might help
The problem is mostly in the head. If they're going to practice goal-kicking, do it with VR goggles on, simulating the audio/visual effects of a packed stadium.

Very little usefulness just having a lazy shot at goal on an empty Punt Road if it's the pressure of the moment that's the real problem. As I said, technique is rarely the problem - these guys have had 1000's of praccy shots at goal in their life with the best technicians of the art offering them advice - it's the handling of the pressure that needs to be improved.

Fine. But if you’re going to play that style of game win it or go down swinging. It was putrid

Thought it was interesting lynch quipped that blues play like melb , get numbers back , I think that’s why we sometimes tried to get too cute with our entries with a few daisy cutters to navigate thru the congestion

Bloody ugly way to play. We also are still trying to readjust to this new forward structure with the additional midfielders resting in the F50. I'm still not 100% that we have the balance right. Hopefully we see the 2022's most offensive team return next week.

No the bal isn’t right just yet , reckon dimma went overs on grunt and roles to get our defensive numbers up , it worked but it comes at a price in other areas , will be work in progress for a while, for mine get a bit more class into the side to help sharpen our entries , we can’t burn our forwards with half our entries being rubbish

If i was a suburban footballer and my goal kicking was off I'd be practising.
AFL players have the 5th quarter every game. Fwds practice goal kicking. Get a feel for the wind. Ground condition. What's changed since the rock concert...

If I was a career footballer I'd be practising to get the feel of the ball drop. hello Ross, Shai, Dusty, Graham.
Did someone else miss badly?

Pro golfers play 18 holes and then stand of the practice area if things aren't right.
Jockeys walk a race track to have a close look.

Agree 💯.
For the life of me and it frustrates the he'll out of me.But if your a fwd you shouldn't never miss particularly in front like Bolton did.
Practice a routine and stick to it.

We know the Sampson Ryan train is coming
in the next month or so he has to keep turning up in the VFL , opportunities will come
I do think it will be too our advantage if he is to earn his place

Jack Watts and Jamar Ugle-Hagan(still young and developing) and probably Tambling in that lot
gifted games early , heaped with praise on the smallest of efforts and then things turn sour

He's already spent 2 years in the VFL and really shouldn't have been given his debut game in 2021.

He's ready.

This is the inevitable result of the Hockings stupid stand rule. It's nearly impossible to apply pressure through the centre of the ground because of the stand rule therefore the defence sets up inside the back 50m arc where there is less space. If you remember the Sydney v Richmond game a couple of years back when Sydney constantly had 18 players in the back 50m arc. That I fear is the future. The good news is that may suit a super tall forward like Samson Ryan, so let's get some game time into him.

Thats exactly the game Carlton employed last thursday night , Anytime the ball was in our foward half there was 17 played camping there
just have to look at that last play where LOB got the ball on their HB line and started running there was nobody in their half of the ground

I believe Jack has used "headphones with packed MCG noise" playing in the past
