I thought a few times in Ruck he looked likely , not as a key forward , he tumbles his marks which isnt a good sign at the top level

It'll be 2024/2025 when he has the body to be an effective KPF/ruck imo.

Unfortunately with our lack of options, it probably means he will play a lot of games where he is visibly outgunned, like the last few weeks.

cant fault his efforts need to keep playing him at the moment, but gee his hands are terrible they need to get better to have any hope of making it

watched him a lot in the 2nds last year his hands where the same he just cant clunk them he seems to snatch at the ball
 
We've got to be the most reactionary group of supporters in the AFL. Add to that the ability to set unrealistic expectations on our young players coming through and it sets up what you see in this thread.

A kid like Samson who should be either plying his trade in the VFL or as back up in the AFL side behind established talent suddenly gets thrown into the leading roles and when he doesn't tear the game apart the 'critics' come for the kid.

The expectations for kids like Samson at the moment should be about seeing signs that with time and development we'll have ourselves a player capable of stepping into the side and being part of the next generation.

The Tim English comparison above is a perfect analogy for where Samson is at. He'll show signs, but he'll also have moments where he doesn't quite deliver, but as he continues to play there will be more consistency that comes into his game and he'll become more comfortable at the level.

My expectations aren’t high that’s for sure with so many youngsters in at once , was disappointed in Ryan , hoping more than anything he may have showed a bit as a key forward , nothing however there were a few good moments in the ruck , a few

Love it mate

Don’t know what everyone expects out him, he’s have a crack and being competitive

Could he be better?
Absolutely!
But I’m not going to judge him harshly given this season he has had to step up massively and he is having to shoulder the loads of being our main key forward and best ruck prospects

Pressure makes diamonds and I feel the juice will be worth the squeeze with him

Not even sure why Samson Ryan's marking or game are being talked about

5 game kid thats 206cm making his way will need learning the top level and thats expected

Leave him alone and move onto the Martin , Prestia , Cotchin , Bolton , Vlastuin , Grimes threads
They were the problems last night and have been all year

Martin , Bolton , Prestia have been shit all year and should be embarrassed looking these young kids in the eye at training

He showed enough playing his first game as the number 1 option up forward. Sure he could have clunked a few more marks up forward to hit the scoreboard, but what was more important was the kid found himself in the right position more often than not and you can build off of that easily enough.
 
Only way he learns and improves is playing at a higher level and there are going to be games where he is lost or not taking his opportunities
but just need to keep playing him - specially now when we really have no choice both up front and Ruck

He plays every game until Lunch & Nank are ready

and its not his job to carry the foward line

100% Correct

For me he is the direct replacement on our list for Callum Coleman Jones who is 18 months older
Im certain in 18 months time samson Ryan will be a better player than CCj
