He's only 22, still developing physically. A few pre-seasons in the gym for him to fill out and he'll be a daunting prospect.

Gets to the right areas, contests plenty of marks but can't quite stick them. That'll all come though.

Saw some stuff I really liked tonight.

I think the goal he kicked, earlier in that passage of play he contested well in the air then supplied ground pressure that helped us turn the ball over.

Then when Young gave Van Rooyen a bit of an ear massage with his leg and Grundy started carrying on and trying to throw his weight around Samson moved in with some purpose and a bit of menace. I really liked his body language in that situation.

He seems to represent yet another great piece of recruitment outside the first 2 rounds of the draft. He looks a proper threat forward, and at the very least should be a decent second ruck. He seems a little lost in D50 for now but he should be able to learn that aspect of the game. He is well co-ordinated and a good ball handler below his knees.

We just need him to strengthen up, improve his endurance and learn a few finer points about forward, defensive and ruck craft. As the great preserver Ray Benson used to declare when he thought a horse was unlucky not to have won in a race he was calling: "this one will keep."

Watching Samson this year I see a lot of similarities with Tim English from early in his career. Very gangly, hadn't quite grown into his body and was being asked to carry the load as the number 1 ruck option. Difference is we're not throwing Ryan to the wolves with no help, he's been partnered by Nankervis or Miller. When conditions have been favourable he has shown some real promising signs taking some big pack marks around the ground and hitting the scoreboard when forward. Definitely one we can build around moving forward.

It’s an under strengthened and developed body issue atm. Fatigued badly after half time , but still competed. His tank needs at least two years work. ATM he’s a cryptocurrency investment and needs those years.
Nice post but think he’s more of a blue chip mining stock… not 100% solid but a hell of a lot better than most and definitely better than what crypto looks atm

Big Ivy will be working with him on that ruck craft, as you say all he needs is the extra size/strength.

And has a Perfect forward tutor in JR.

It’d be nice to see 70/30 forward/ruck split. As much as I rate ruckman , having a 208cm kpf, who is either going to mark the ball or bring it to ground would be gold

We gotta play him in the seniors for the rest of the year.
We have no kpf of note pushing up behind JR and Lynch so it’s him then light years.

Just play him, be prepared for some quiet games, but every game you get into him now alongside JR and Lynch (on his return ) will be huge for his development

Excellent comparison and hope you’re right

We have the next Hawkins in the 2's

just has to get his broken hand fixed

Managed 😂
It’s my favourite reason for resting players when the teams come out.
It’s standard these days, no one really gets flogged like the old days.
Playing every game for the rest of this Season...as mooted by a few footy pundits on here...is a flogging in my book for the physical equivalent of a undernourished baby giraffe in SR!

Yeah, he’ll be managed some time during the season.
Experience of playing alongside a couple of the best KPF in the last 20 years is huge though.
I’m sure that balance will be achieved
