Actually I’m liking his second and third efforts after the ruck contest has been done. He’s been involved in many link up chains and some have resulted in goals. As I said earlier he goes through patches where he looks like he’s out of energy for the game, but then finishes the game out stronger. It’s been noticeable now for three weeks.
Yeah I don't mean his effort in general play but the follow up immediately after he has contested the hit out. Chalk and cheese between him and Nank in that regard.

ATM yes bc of physical development, but trying to compare him to Nank is wrong as they are different types of ruckmen. Nank is the BBMF crash bash type whereas Ryan is the more traditional tap ruckman / forward type. I,m still liking that Ryan is still involved in a lot of chains of play as that’s a big win so early on in his career. Nowadays players as you’re sort of suggesting need to have a few more strings to their bow. He’s shown over the last month that he’s actually probably more advanced in his development to where most including myself actually thought he’d be. We won’t actually know how good he’s going to be until 18-24 months time and if he can keep building his current game and adding a few more strings along then we will have some player. Just enjoy his growth atm and appreciate the enormous job he and Miller are doing for us in the ruck department. 😀

Really pleasing to see a kid you jump on early coming good once their opportunity presents. Was a big fan of his from his first few games in the VFL as you could see he had something about him. Will only continue to improve as he gets to play more games across the remainder of the season.

What will be interesting though will be how we play the kid once Nankervis returns as Ryan has been quite good in the ruck as his confidence in the role grew. Do we send him back to being a forward partnering Jack or do we send Nankervis forward and keep running Ryan as the number 1 ruck.

Nank is ruck but Ryan is a ruck 1st, forward second. Really both play and it is a good problem to have. They will figure it out and I cannot see why they cannot compliment each other.

Ruck is least of our problems at he moment

I think Ryan will go back to playing 75% forward with stints in the ruck. The beauty is that they complement each other beautifully so we can flip them around as required.

Soldo and Nank have different strengths in terms of ruck work but the problem is neither can play forward whereas as Ryan is a legitimate forward option.

Clear as day he is a ruck who can push forward. Not a forward who goes into the ruck. Elite tap work, aggression goes up a notch when given responsibility on ball and already learning to use his body against more mature opponents.

I think he will develop into a dangerous forward when he can float forward against smaller, lesser matchups from the ruck. Putting him against a genuine key defender all game has not been best use of him and he looks lost (so far).

I am trying to trade Nank and/or Soldo at the end of the year if I can get something of use.

Trade our captain who was in AA form before he got injured so a bloke who won't be physically ready to ruck a full game for a couple more seasons can get ran into the ground. Makes sense :straining:

Having Nank as the main man for 2 or 3 more seasons will be the perfect apprenticeship for Ryan. Keep Soldo purely for backup to an injury prone Nank too.

Rumors abound that he will return to QLD or that he wants to. I hope its BS and nothing of substance has been reported but given he is our most exciting forward prospect since JR, it would be bloody crushing.

Good news is the girlfriend is from Melbourne, and you know how these things work ;)

In 3 more season Ryan will be 26. He's nearly 23, he's not 18. He was a mature rookie recruit.

He is ready for more responsibility from next season. The issue is neither Nank or Soldo can't play forward = Ryan being shunted forward in a position that's not best for him until they are gone/retired.

There's also the possibility of teams recruiting him or him leaving whispering his ear he will be their #1 ruck while stuck behind those two aforementioned lugs.

I like him playing with Nank not instead. Nank to soften them up, Ryan to really dominate in the 2nd half as they tire

He'll be 25, and I said 2-3 years. He was/is a raw beanpole and was always going to be a long-term project. Tim English is about to turn 26 and struggled against the big bodies until 2 years ago. Gawn didn't hit his straps until his 6th season as a 24-year-old. If he's ready to go earlier, even better. Nank is injury prone anyway.

Thought this guy was going to be a spud but he's actually pretty damn good.

That was why I thought he was knackered toward the end of the game , couple of times I thought he had sit for a mark , made a poor attempt , nevertheless still a contest , Tis bloody tiring rucking for as long as he did
Loving his work though and he’s a learner so look out in 12m time

At which club would Ryan be No. 1 ruck?
Ryan's had a great run of games and put himself ahead of Soldo and can play KPF. The return of 200 cm Lynch and Nank makes Ryan a good back up ruck.
And Ryan is getting game time up fwd too so maybe JR replacement.

don't get any of that vibe for him...
Grew up a tiges supporter
A few clips of him at training looks like he loves the joint
And his passion is pretty noticeable on the field.

Granted, that doesn't mean the power of family override all of that

I hope not, he would be an attractive target for the Lions as a first ruck in 1-2 years.

I think some random poster mentioned a return to Qld. But seeing BT have a chat..
Ryan's Girlfriend down here helps. She sounded pretty good as did Sampson.
Mum was just excited wasn't she? She didn't sound drunk.
Anglo parents aren't in our kids back pockets. Phone and face time are so easy.

Brizzy solo ruck, O'mac is younger than Nank and their KPF are younger than jack.
Ryan has pinch hit as ruck and KPF extremely well. Ryan is coming into his prime.
When we lost CCJ and Chol Jack, Lynch and Nank were locked in ahead of them.
I think Ryan has pushed past Soldo.
