He clearly needs a rest has been asked to shoulder way more load then would have been expected at this point of his career

Kids will clearly be a player but clearly needs a few weeks to recharge the tank

Those saying Nank damaged his game tonight probably aren’t wrong.

But that said, Ryan being the #1 ruck has seen him run out of gas in the back end of games over the last few weeks.

It seemed to me that he physically needed a chop out.

Nank was 100% in terms of injury recovery. But you can’t replicate game conditions to get over the rusty and get those miles into the legs.

The conundrum now is that Ryan would seemingly be the better option as lead ruck moving forward. Nank wasn’t great pre-injury either. But you can’t not play your captain.

That said, every bit of experience for Ryan is a good thing. It’s clear he’s a key cog in our future.

Had 3 marks one on his own on the wing one against a small, old past it in Heppell and dunno the other mark. What was worrying last night was we kicked it to him as the marking target, he was there to contest their down the line kicks or was in the vicinity to contest a mark approx 30 times last night and found so many ways to fail to mark it. The same opportunity Richo would've taken 20 marks. Samson was slipping over, brushed aside, slight contact would spill it or just plain drop it unopposed. Is it just me or does he rarely jump and launch at the ball? Might have an ok ruckman that can kick goals but not looking like a KPF. Don't give him No.12 either keep it in mothballs til they arrive.

That's it, he's in his first full season and he left absolutely nothing in the tank to get us home last week.

He played like a first year kid who didn't back up well after a massive performance and could do with a freshen - none which would have happened if Soldo could get on the park.

Not his fault, not the coaching staff's fault, not Soldo's fault, just an unlucky sequence of events which has probably cost us the season.

Ryan may well end up the better ruckman, but he didn't beat much against the Eagles and Geelong and we're already seeing the effects of him carrying that load too early. It takes a fully filled out, mature, hardened body to cope through half a season, let alone 22 games.

If Soldo plays we can carry Nank Nanking up clearances until he hopefully gets his body right and his form back somewhere that isn't catastrophic. If Soldo can't get back anytime soon, we'll be forced to watch endless repeats of what we saw last night, with maybe the occasional game (e.g. post-bye) where Ryan body will allow him to perform at that high level he's shown he's capable of.

Not sure he gains much playing AFL if he’s so spent he can’t get above a jog or hold his position in a contest

If he’s in desperate need of a rest then give the kid a rest
He doesnt need a rest and is not a 18 year old 1st year player
Has 3 years in the system and is 22 years old and capable of running out a season

Needs games and experience for the long term and you dont get that by playing VFL against inferior players

I would have made Ryan the number one Ruck for the game and Nank our number two. Unfortunately for Ryan, Nank is a very average forward. I watched him trying ton get to contests and bring the ball to ground and he just can't do it. whether his jump and movement is still being effected or Father Time has kicked in, I'm not sure, but he really wasn't a threat forward. The ball came out more quickly than it came in when he was the forward target.
This puts a lot of pressure on Ryan.

I would have Nank resting back when he plays rather than forward. He'd have to be the +1 because teams would exploit him otherwise but he doesn't seem to have the craft or skill set to be relied upon in the F50.

For Ryan though, he's a better tap ruckman than Nank. His size makes him easier to push out of the contest but otherwise his reach gives him the upper hand. In fact, his strength and bulk reall is the only thing holding him back from destroying opposition backmen and rucks but that's for the future to reveal.

Next week, I'd play Ryan with a 50%/40%/10% split - ruck/forward/bench. Nank, I'd play 40%/40%/20% split - backline/ruck/bench. When neither is in the forwardline, it gives players like Jack, Dusty, Bolton, HR-S etc a time to shine too.

Interesting...but it's never that easy to 'menu list' a player's on field game time, game possy...the course of the game and oppo has a large bearing to play in determining this...It's only the GOAT's that have the instinct and coaches permission to rotate their on field possy...
Just play S.R in the ruck for the rest of the year...think Nank is in transition mode to retirement...Soldo an option too!
Anyway's it's all moot now with Dimma retiring and a possible new coach incoming with fresh/new ideas/tactics...

Is all thrown out the window it many way but I was really trying to say that Ryan needs to be given more time in the ruck and Nank less time forward. Ryan is going to be a real talent for us and I just want him to continue to grow in confidence and size so he can realise his potential.

Hi RockJobster0312

Probably our most valuable future tall player and I think the MC are doing him a terrible disservice by constantly playing him.
You continue to play kids with developmental issues in the AFL if they're actually improving them. With Ryan he's actually gone backwards since his last decent game about 6 weeks ago. His confidence is now becoming shot as his body language and facial expressions show negative signs as he's continually rag dolled by bigger rucks. He's now even getting out marked by smaller guys and just becoming a replay of what happened to JC when continually gifted games and not sent to the VFL to work on his deficiencies and hence regain belief and confidence.
Players with major flaws in their games need to go back to the VFL to correct them. Failing to do this means they will become JC and drift into football extinction.
With Ryan we are actually harming him by playing him now as he has massive flaws in his game being physically underdeveloped he's now looking fatigued and his flaws are more and more obvious. In the game day thread posters were implying he's NGTMI and they could be right if he doesn't correct his leg and arm strength for positioning, balance and holding out opponents. He falls over too often and drops marks like leaves off an apple tree in the Autumn.
The VFL is designed for development and confidence building and mostly to eliminate obvious flaws in players when they get there. Failing to do this kills them off or if they can't rectify them they die off anyhow.
