Re: #32: Travis Colyer - (28/03/12) Broken thumb, out for six weeks

Terrible luck for Trav and it removes some of our midfield depth. It does give an opporunity for Del'ollio though.

Damn was looking forward to watching a bigger, fitter and ready to go Colyer.

But as I've always said "Gypsies come and go, but Hurley will stay forever!"

Arsebiscuits.

And we were going so well.

Losing pace yet again early in the year is an annoyance to say the least.

If we are going to get an injury then one that won't affect fitness on a guy who is sub at best and often my whipping boy for disposal.

Wasn't necessarily best 22. Will give NLM, Reimers, etc a shot now - if they weren't already favoured.

Still, hope he gets back early and plays well for Bendigo when he does.

If you're implying Colyer doesn't deserve a spot in the team, you're crazy.

He's been one of the best performers in the pre-season and has put on the most lean muscle mass per pound in the club since last year. He's a totally different physical body to the one he was before - so much so that he has been primed to play out full games this year, there's no way he was gonna be subbing it.

Major blow to the ass, and was really looking forward to him playing in Round 1 - but I guess it gives Del-ican'tspellhisgoddamnname a chance.

If we were to cop an injury (and most sides do), Colyer is possibly the one you would cop, and it is only 6 weeks, it is not a season ending injury.

Lean muscle mass does not equal footballing ability.

6 weeks seem long for a broken thumb. Players were coming back earlier with broken hands in previous seasons

Thought he was pretty rusty but that was to be expected after missing over a month of football. Think he will start as the sub again next week.

This man's kicking is extraordinary.

I have never seen such permutations and discombobulations from a football as it comes off someone's foot. It is the magic bullet. Jim Garrison's conspiracy theory has just been disproven. There was no second shooter.

And while the game is still called football, I'm not entirely sold on the idea that Trav should get a gig.

Has he ever kicked without taking a moment to steady himself? He runs like the wind and shanks like my tee-offs, I'd love him to settle and steady himself before disposing.

There will always be time for a tumble forward but it is not when he's used his greatest asset to afford himself some time and space.

even with the kicking problems, i still like him, alot.
His kicking is shizen, but he finds the pill naturally, he always seems to be in the right spot somehow, and then butcher the ball.
the kicking can be taught, the footy smarts can't be.

the focus last summer was getting big, the focus this summer has to be working on skills, 24/7, dont let the bastards leave!!

I said a couple weeks back i'd look at him as trade bait because really his kicking hasn't improved since day one but i think he still has some currency with his speed and hard it style. People bring up Jobe but really at least with his kicking it improve each year, i don't think Coyler kicked a drop punt last night thats just not good enough. If we could get a 2nd round pick for him i'd be more than happy.

He had 2 really nice spear passes, 1 of which hit Crameri on the chest. (Note: Was at the game and they looked really nice but I've been told 1 of them didn't spin). But he did have his classic shockers. The one that sticks out and must eradicate from his game is his goal finishing.
The one I had in mind was where North handballed straight to him on a standing start, and he just took off, leaving everyone in his wake. His pace is absolutely blistering, but in classic him fashion, his shot from about 50 didnt spin and went nowhere near.

At times I wonder if he knows how quick he actually is. Genuinely no-one is catching him, but he never seems to take that step or 2 to poise himself and kick, and his pace certainly allows him to do this.

I was happy late in the game where we had no run for some inexplicable reason and he got about 4 touches in just continuously running from half back to half forward.

There's enough to work with, I'm persisting.
