This stood out to me as well. Seemed to know when to press and attack the ball.He has acceleration - a real burst of speed and good judgement. And he can mark the ball. Not a penetrating kick so team mates need to present up to him.

What about Mason Wood …oh.
That one is unbelievable.Corey Wagner also showing some improvement

There's been that many stops with Corey Wagner he'd make a good train conductor. It took a while. There was a stop at Melbourne in between too.
Building.
Something I don't think gets mentioned enough in footy is body movement. I'm sure those really into dance, gymnastics or martial arts will be better able to explain it. Any of those disciplines that require strong but smooth integrated movement.
Sometimes you watch players who just have something but you look at statistics or raw skills and it's not apparent.
Jackson has the raw ingredients of that. Uses his body well one one on one, can control his change of direction well and knows how to charge through effectively (no idea where he picked that one up from..).
Sydney are typically a side full of players with these attributes. Sometime their individual skills might not be exceptional or they won't set any land speed records but they have very effective body control.
That one is unbelievable.
Chandler must have some serious wheels as the wind drag created by his jaw probably knocks a couple of KMs off his top speed.Definitely has acceleration and his top speed is more than quick enough.View attachment 1767320

On Jacko, he's coming along very nicely. He was drafted as pretty much a pure lockdown defender but has adapted quite well to Clarko's zone defence. This suggests that's he (1) has a reasonable footy IQ and (2) is very coachable. Sadly, the same can't be said for at least one of his fellow defenders.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him develop into a decent swingman, like his dad.
Could be that those traits weren't visible around draft time and that he's gotten himself into a position to show that athleticism through pure hard work. Vertical leaps can be improved, it's certainly not all genetics. If he pushed Jy all the way in the preseason time trial, it's not a stretch to say he probably put the same effort into other types of physical exercisesI feel like recruiters must have just missed on his athleticism, or perhaps he just worked on it because like many others I only noticed this year that he leaps about a foot higher off the ground than everyone else.
We caught some criticism for drafting somebody who wasn't on a lot of clubs' radars, but you step back and look at a great athlete with elite intangibles and wonder why he wasn't taken higher. Ed Richards and Isaac Quaynor were first-round picks, and I don't think either was significantly better than Archer in a similar role.
Like yeah, the disposal and game sense could use some work, but you look at everything else that can't be taught and Archer has it.

I won't comment on speed of development but I think the sky is the limit with Jackson. I reckon he has his dad's X factor which is the single most important thing.
Imagine in having the Shinboner of the Century at home giving you pointers. That's got to help.
Good news is that he has some good composure despite being ferocious on the ball and this really isn’t something easily learned without a 150 games under your belt.He has all the non teachable attributes.
Needs to work on his short to medium penetrating kick and he will be exactly what we need.
Over 35 metres Glen was almost as reliable as boomer and there isn’t any higher praise I can give.I’d trust Glenn with ball in hand over any of our current back six
Has a touch of psyco about him too. Hasn't bubbled over as yet.Nice thoughts but I see him as quite different to Glenn.
Random thoughts on Jackson Archer:
- Hope I'm not wrong but: considering his privileged upbringing compared to his dad, Glenn and Lisa should be proud of the young man Jackson appears to have become
- Completely different bodytype and movement to Glenn
- He is more naturally athletic than Glenn BUT doesn't have the same talent for offence. Quite simply, Glenn was a freak.
- Whilst I'm sure Glenn kicked the footy with him to all hours and imparted experience too, he strikes me as someone who would've handed over Jackson's development to other mentors once they had his trust. I don't get the impression Glenn has micromanaged Jackson's development.
Reminds me of Cory Enright the way he moves.
