Problem is who does he tip out if that midfield? He can’t play anywhere else on the ground and isn’t as good as the midfield talent we have on the list.

If he can only play midfield would be better off seeking a trade. A club would t need to pay much.

I’d be happy to tip Simpkin to a HFF full time if it meant a pure mids like powell or lizard got more of a go in their natural role.

Had put a line thro charlie, well done to him. He can find a role like Bailey scott has, and can also put pressure on Powell and Phillips
Competition for spots is what makes good teams

the slightly lower intensity and half a second more time to make a decision suited Laz, hence why he smashes it at VFL level.
He needs to do this when things are red hot at senior level.

Can play and good on him too. Where does he fit when LDU and Wardlaw are fit?

Reckon his tank will always beat Wardlaw's and his 2-way running will beat LDU's.

So he has a place as a depth mid in an on-ball unit, at the least as rm3504 said he can bring some Bailey Scott attributes into the side.

Hopefully its just a confidence thing. Time will tell i guess.

I'm very happy for him, he seems like a good kid and he has definitely improved his game this year but using Saturday as evidence of improvement is folly IMO.

Charlie's issues have centered around being fumbly and suspect with his disposal at AFL standard and Saturday's match was more akin to a VFL game than an AFL game.

He will have to become a tagger, winger or small forward if he is going to survive the next 12 months - not dissimilar to what Ryan Clarke had to become when he moved to the Swans.

Funny you mention the Swans. I think Charlie can be better than Ryan Clarke, I think he should model his game more on James Rowbottom. I want him to up his pressure around the footy, get more manic with his tackling and become a two way runner which we lack with other mids.
If he can do this then he'll become a very valuable player.

I tend to agree. Even after a solid game on the weekend I felt that he was noticeably less clean than some of his peers (particularly on the pickup / by hand - one touch pickup is close to the single most valuable trait once you hit AFL level). His running is great though. I'm firmly in the unconvinced that he has a point of difference in our team 2-3 years from now. Likeable kid though and I can't fault his effort. I really hope he makes it even if not with us... to be honest I kind of always saw him as a good fit running up and down the ground for WC - but maybe that's just a slight Priddis feel to him.

We've kept far worse players on out list for a prolonged period of time, let's see where he's at and where we're at this time next year, but he has the potential to be a fringe best 22 player nothing wrong with having good depth on our list.
