Rewatching the Rd 24 game against GC, I forgot how good this guy and Powell were in that game.

It’s a ripping game to re-watch. I really think our potential was on show particularly with our kicking skill and decision making. Phillips, Powell, Lazz, Thomas, Curtis, Goater and Ford all had some unreal inside 50’s that resulted in scores.

I agree, he was seriously good that day. The only asterix is that the pressure that Gold Coast applied that day wasnt up to AFL standard.

I am massive fan of his attitude and want to succeed and at worse he will be a handy depth/role player for us over the next 12 months and probably a year or two after.

Regardless of whether he makes it or doesn't. What is good news for us is players like Charlie are a step above some we have delisted during the last few seasons.

My initial impression when watching it was that Gold Coast's pressure looked off because we had better run through the middle (greatly impacted by Lazarro).

Yes, let's delist Laz, because it's not like any of our starting 7 mids are going to get injured.....And did you see him in that last game vs GC, I mean talk about making up the numbers....only got it 25 times!

Hey, no-one doubts the boys at Arden St have football talent. It's whether they can execute their skills under pressure, which has sadly been a resounding "No" over the last 5 years. Round 24 by GC last season was laughable. Zero pressure applied on our midfield. Zero. Naught. If you want to use that game as a guide as to the potential our midfield has, you may as well do the same at our first intra-club game in Feb. The pressure would be of a similar standard. We've looked "awesome" in our intra-club games over the last 5 years.
And yes, I'm aware Phillips polled a Brownlow vote.

I’m quietly confident about his upcoming year.

It may have just clicked for him, he looked a level above the VFL at times in the back half of the year and then franked that form at AFL level when given a chance.

We’ve seen this trendline before with other players after a few preseasons.

Whilst he will never be a world beater, a Froggy Dumont type player isn’t out of question imo.

At the very least he’s going to be a good role player/depth which is what every top team has.

No Howe this year, Shiel likely gone next year, players like Taylor etc getting regular games.

There’s plenty of games this year on offer if he’s good enough.

Want him to be given a go but can't see how he gets into the side in his natural position barring injuries. It's clear he's an inside mid. Played there all vfl season and killed it they're vs gold coast final round. Begs the question wtf did the club get 3 of the same player type Phillips Powell lazzaro all in our first 3 picks that year

Could not have done more this pre-season.
As stacked as midfield looks come the start of the season, he has to be given an opportunity, he was great in the final game last season and looks to have worked doubly hard this offseason.

This kids name is going to be one of the first names read out, simply because of his work rate during the week.

The melts will be glorious from the usual suspects.
Gonna be interesting to see how he fits into the side. Won’t get the same sort of midfield opportunities he got against the Suns with LDU and Wardlaw in the side.

Blows me away how professional this kid is. Leaving no stone unturned.

You’d love him to make it. I will say, he looks decidedly less “fumbly” this year.

He’s not Wardlaw, LDU, Simpkin or Sheezel, but where does he sit in the next bracket with Powell and Phillips?

I've seen enough skilled players wasted away bc they're simply not motivated nor full of effort.

Laz has
100% motivation
100% program commitment and growth
50% skill

he MUST be given a chance to prove he's improved the third point, otherwise what's the point at all
Yep, he needs opportunity. Genuine string of games opportunity

seem to remember Noble saying we're building from the midfield out. That said, remember seeing an interview pre draft with some precocious young kid on you tube, and couldn't help thinking gee I'd love to have Charlie at North, just oozed professionalism, respect, and a quality human being and that he would give himself every opportunity to make it which I reckon a good pick at that level in the draft.

What other weapon does he have?
Seeing him in person, he presents quite tall and definitely strong - but Jesus Christ does he get thrown of the ball with ease.

He can go in and get the pill, like Wphil? But can he kick it as well? Is he a better burst player?
