Posted this in the media thread, but worthy of mention in here as well;

SYDNEY will reward youngster Joel Amartey for his career-best game against West Coast over the weekend, with the key-position talent recently agreeing to a three-year deal with the Swans.

Not sure how he's rewarded for his game on the weekend if he's already signed the extension? :think:

Good news, but it would be nice if the club actually broke these announcements.

Me watching my dream future forward line coming together

I'll preface this by saying I like Amartey and looking forward to seeing what he can do.

But...

I'm uncomfortable with the length of the contract. Body keeps failing him. We don't want another Reid or Naismith.

If he's on low money though, it's probably worth it.

I think the 3 years take him through to free agency. If he leaves then we could get something in compensation. Offer him 2 years and he leaves before free agency we may get little.

This isn't aimed at you specifically, more just Swans fans in general, probably including myself at some point.

We complain a lot about losing players to other clubs but then when we keep them we complain that we signed them for too long.

There's no such thing as the perfect contract, you have to give something to get something, and I'd rather have a good player for a year or so too long than lose them and watch them potentially flourish with someone else because we flinched at the negotiation table.

I think that's also why every great premiership team has had a rough period afterwards, because once their glory days are over they're left with a handful of players who aren't necessarily good enough and are past their primes. But at the end of the day it's the price you pay for enjoying the glory days in the first place, and I reckon it's a pretty small price.

Works for both "parties" I think. Good management all round.
Just hope his injury woes are behind him and his form is consistent across 4 quarters. He has so much talent.

I just hope he's learnt from each of his soft tissue injuries thus far in regard to how he manages his body moving forward. He's definitely got the talent it's just whether or not he has the discipline to build the continuity we are so desperately craving in our forward line for the next 5-7 years.
