Also with the added bonus that the pick 68 actually likes Essendon FC. That helps.

When you look purely at the contested marking aspect, Casboult is one of the very best in the league, his hands are like a vice. So for Hartley to still hold his own against him in the contest bodes well. Looking like such a good get.

Total lock down player, wouldn't care if he agvd <5 possessions for his career n avgd a goal a game against him. Is he better than frost at pies, they'd b spewing they gave up a key defender well before his prime

Has just about replaced the loss of Carlilse and will only get better once Hooker+Hurley come back.

Another Dodoro gem.

He'll be better than that Buzz.

He's 5 games into his career, finding his feet, getting number 1 forwards in a side that is bleeding inside 50s and he's not been beaten yet.

The improvement from the Melbourne and Port games to the last three has been huge. You can see that he is more confidently attacking the ball to spoil and going for marks.

His kicking is almost as good as Hurley's (he has a cannon that is also accurate). It's not fluke that he is taking the kick outs.

There is so much more to him game than just being a stopper.

If I was inclined to make the call I think he'll end up a better defender than Carlisle and possibly Hooker good.

He is probably benefiting more than any other player from the bans. He has probably learned a seasons worth in the last 5 games.

My only knock on him is his kick ins.. Doesn't take first option then kicks it long.

Tippa has been by far our best kick in option this year.

That'd stagger me seeing as they see a lot more than we do and it was clear as day he could seriously play

You can't explain his non-selection any other way, really. He was good in NAB and yet they went with Ambrose who is now cooked, out of the side hardly looking a VFL player. Coaches are routinely blinded by perceptions about players (both positive and negative). The good thing here is that they only stuffed up one week, probably out of necessity more than anything.

I only really take positives out of yesterday vs Buddy. He displayed the speed required to stay with Buddy on the lead (except on the fast break when there was space and speed of movement that makes staying with Franklin impossible) which surprised me. It goes to show that when he has looked a little on the slow side it was a lack of confidence and his being reactive rather than anticipating and/or attacking the ball.

He's 6 games into a career and more then held his own with a guy who is pretty much as good as any forward who has played. It's not like Hartley won't improve his craft and won't get fitter and stronger. I'd be putting a contract extension before him. He will provide our key position stocks with the flexibility to play Hooker forward, if we need it, or free Hurley to play on lesser players.

I know Buddy kicked 6 but it was a game where you could still say he did a lot of things right, even more so with the fact we turned a lot of footy over
in the midfield. Made a few rookie errors as you would expect but he has been really good.

Some of Franklin's goals were just ridiculous so he won't be facing many (if any) other opponents who can do that sort of stuff. Loving his work so far. Looking like an absolute steal.

Buddy may have kicked 6 but I thought Hartley played fantastic... got beaten a couple of times but with the amount of entry Sydney had it was bound to happen. I think Buddy only took 1 or 2 contested marks inside 50 for the game... and got one cheap free kick.

Very Impressed!!

Harts did well..
Buddy is the junk time king.. No one better at joining in the party when the other team is cooked (we were completely spent in the last quarter)..
