It's just a shame that, due to our personnel situation, he spent the bulk of his career trying to be our no. 1 defender & copped a lot of hidings from blokes like Gehrig, Fevola, etc. I'm sure that's dented his confidence enormously.

(Not saying the occasional spray on this forum hasn't been warranted!)

Always comes across like a good bloke who loves the club.

Watt the hell is he still doing on ya list!?

A very valid question BUT I don't have the time nor the interest to bury myself in such discussions.
I find it very appropriate that Watt plays his 150th against the best team in the AFL.
It will be intersting to see if the guys can lift for Watt's 150th & get us over the line next week.

And the criticism? "It's interesting, in a way. I suppose I can see people's point. They pay their money, they pay our wages in a way, so they're entitled to their opinion. But when you're the one they're talking about, you can't listen too hard to it or else it would really mess with you.

Good point and good attitude to have.

OOhh man, when SWatter breaks 183 games, or whatever it is, I'm going on the Port board and asking "Wilson. Who? Stalwart of your club? Hard defender, long-term clubman? Who?? We have Watt. Suck it up."

Lachy Hansen turns 20 today. Hope he can have a double celebration.

As for #36. As long as he gets support from his teammates, he'll be a better contributor for the team. Keep plugging away Watty.

Well played today by Shan. Great spoils, some level headed decisions and loved seeing him tuck the ball under his arms a few times and banging it into midfield.

:thumbsu:

plays his best as an offensive defender instead of a defensive one.....gives him a chance to run and some time to think.

still like to see him given a few minutes up forward every week so he can learn some more about forward line delivery.

pitty they never taught him to use his body when he was younger - things might have been different.

his career is a tribute to perseverance - hopefully he can play another 2 years and finish his career on his own terms.

ok ok i know its been a while since i posted about shannon watt - i was thinking yesterday - he has been super over the past few weeks one on one and spoling , marking etc..

if we could just get brain/skills from boomer into watt he would be a champion - he kills me when he takes a great mark or good spoil then follows it up with a useless turnover!!

that is all :D

Did well to mentally turn his form around. He was in such a mess after the Brisbane game that I was thinking he may need a week or two in the VFL to get some lost confidene back.

When at his best, AND played in the right position, he is still in our best 22 IMO.

I disagree that he is in our best 22 - but credit where it is due, he was very good yesterday against Carlton and will play this week.

It is actually his 150th, so it a great effort for him to get there with his limited ability (that is actually suppose to be a compliment - albeit a backhanded one). I hope his milestone is a memorable one...

Well, I don't see any quick talls capable of playing a variety of roles (except FB) ahead of him on our list who aren't already in the side. It's blokes like Scotty Thompson or Obst who can take his spot but neither of them is ahead of Watt at the moment, hence my assessment.

Our best 22 would include H, JWS, Edwards & Nathan Thompson (among others). If these 4 are added in, Watt is one of the 1st ones out. And yes - I would drop him before Brown...

Hasnt it been proven over and over that Shannon struggles on the last line of defence but holds his own across half-back? Its just about finding the right match-up for him week-to-week.

Its not ideal that Laids has to work within these limitations but until someone better comes along Watt has a role to play.
