consequence of people comparing him to his dad I think
There's more to it than that. He has obviously worked hard this pre season to get into shape.

Tbh, he’s filling out into a little tank.

He’s just quick enough, certainly when coupled with this powerful body shape he is filling out into.

He was absolutely superb in the first half particularly.

Last year I would have said he's fat and slow. This game he looked fit, lean but solid and he worked hard to get all the way back into the D50 to provide options and link all the way back into the forward 50. His movement in traffic was really good too.

It was noticeable in the first half and he was one of the reasons the yellow side looked good at times imo.

The way he snaps around his body within traffic and still nails his man is almost taking the piss. His confidence going for goals is also, taking the piss. I’m not sure what will be the thing that gets him to being a PC type starter but I feel it may be speed, tank or versatility.
We need a good VFL team, and I really do not care who pushes who but Harvey is already looking too good for VFL. PC showed improvement in the off the ball and goal assist type stuff at the tail end of last year.

Harvey is developing and providing competition for spots just like the Lazz/Phillips/Powell scenario.

Cooper is flying under the radar a little bit.

He kicked 21.16 from 12 games in the VFL last year. With 2 x bags of 5 and 1 x 4.

He actually averaged the same number of goals per game as Shaun Mannagh and Sam Lowson in the VFL last year, two of the best forwards in the country outside of the AFL (Mannagh is now in the AFL because of it...)

He did it as an 18/19 year old.

We lack a genuine crumber. Curtis as promising as he is, isn't a genuine crumber imo, he loves to fly for marks, he loves to lead up at the ball carrier. He's a classic medium forward, like Zurhaar is.

I thought Cooper looked close to the best forward and most dangerous forward on the ground yesterday. He was always in excellent positions, he was dynamic when he got it and he was damaging with his decision making and disposal.

If he repeats that vs Collingwood and St Kilda, he'd be a lock in my R1 forward pocket, purely because he's a natural goal kicking small forward, who can crumb. He's also an excellent contested mark for his size.

I was pretty critical of Cooper pre-draft, I thought he wasn't athletic enough to be a small forward at AFL level and I thought his skills (particularly his kicking) left a lot to be desired. I didn't think he'd amount to much more than an average VFL player, if that. He looked like a kid who'd won a contest to train with North when he trained with us in the 2022 pre-season going into his top age year. He's already blown well past that prediction.

TBH, I honestly think he's the player who has had the greatest development leap on the entire list in the last 12 months.

At this point he looks like one of our better kids when you look at his stats objectively. The exciting thing is, he looks like he definitely has his old mans genetics. He's stacked on an incredible amount of size already and he looks quicker and fitter across the ground only 2 pre-seasons into his career. He's going to be built like his old man in 3-4 years imo.

It's mad to think he's been drafted in the same range as his old man. It couldn't happen again, could it?

Well, it could.

Lateral movement, plain work rate, positioning and smarts as a collective is more important than pure straight line speed. Cooper's game yesterday reminded me of Paul Chapman.

Cooper has a lot to work with, and I agree, PC is still more a medium forward but has shown improvement.

At any rate, a 19 year old CH and 20 year old PC is a significant upgrade on Kayne Turner and Jack Mahony.

Worst case scenario is one ends up a match winner at VFL level.

Cooper will be a significant beneficiary of the classy midfield and better kicking skills coming into the forward line. The last 3 years North has been bereft of getting easy goals (Joe the Goose, 20 metre chip passes to an easy target 30 metres from goal). Cooper (and others) will benefit from the likes of Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKerchar wining one out contests then using the ball well.

Cooper will be a target because he will have a high conversion rate within 45 metres of goal.

IMO they’ll be eyeing moving PC higher up the ground anyway.
It’s the ability to stand up in tackles and that fend off, you’d want him doing that in congestion.
I think both would happily play in tandem, CH closer to goals and roaming up and swapping with PC.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is he’s a great contested mark - doesn’t get shifted when he’s in a good position
he is, but it always bears mentioning that he blew out his contested mark stat by towelling up oisin mullin who's new to the game and doesn't compare to a guy who's been playing markers up in the back yard since he could walk. we'll need a larger sample size to see how much of an asset it actually is, but no doubt it's a skill and it will make him an awkward matchup for small defenders.

Proverbial knows where the goals are

Just needs to make sure he's doing all the other stuff too and he should play plenty of games. You can never have too many goalkickers

And what a story that would be.

About time we get a gift from our father sons.

On crutches and in a moonboot.
On the injury front, Cooper Harvey left the field in the first quarter after a suspected ankle injury and didn't return to the field, while Jackson Archer was on limited game time and pulled up well.

"It's actually really positive news for 'Coops', hopefully it's just a roll of his ankle," Lynch said.

Moon boot seems a bit excessive for the rolled ankle

But good to hear

Club is being extra conservative.
They do this alot in the EPL.

Any sprains, rolled ankles, knocks no matter how minor - you see the player in a moon boot immediately and initiated into weight-bearing protocols.

Then literally a week later they are back running and playing again. Sometimes even training 4-5 days later.

Lynchy really is a glass half full kinda guy isn't he. Sounds great to me, oh what I'd give to just roll an ankle, I might go try doing one now on the stairs.
