Player Watch #38 Noah Cumberland - Delisted

Dimma got into his head and has ****ed his confidence. Been well over coached, looked lost out there today. Kept leading into space and was overlooked. In fairness though, he didn’t look up for it today.

We’ve got an issue with developing talent lately since Fly has departed the club. Not many shining and this kid had all the natural flair and ability but it’s disappearing each week.

He now needs to go back to VFL level and discover that form. I’d have Lambo work closely with him on his mental stuff. Say next three weeks baring injury your in the VFL and we want to see you perform.

We are desperate for small/medium dynamic forwards. Really would be nice for him to come on.

He is a selfish footballer who has a terrible demeanour , much like his piss and giggle when linning up fir his first kick at goal last week .
He’ll end up getting traded or delisted at some stage , get to a similar stage where the penny drops and he realises all clubs expect players to be team orientated and be a good player .

Listening to and seeing Dimmas demeanour in the presser after being asked about Noah, everyone should just relax. Sky’s not falling and he’s not on the outer.

“It just wasn’t his day, he’s a good kid who will take it on the chin and move on, he’ll get better and we’ll continue to work with him, he’s a highly talented player, he’s an individual we want in the side playing a good brand of footy. The difficult thing is he was asked to play a different role again so consistency has been a challenge not just for the coaches but for the players as well.

Can’t agree with that. He’s a huge talent that when left to do what he does, turns games on its head.

I sure hope we don’t delist or trade him out as we will regret it. We have so many question marks about talent coming through. For me, he’s the one who has shown he’s definitely got the talent.

The same was said of D Rioli when he played forward and yet he remained in the team for weeks on end playing poorer football than Cumberland. Richmond are really on a hiding to nothing keeping him in the side this year now - clearly they ain’t contending for a flag.
Heaps of supporters keep saying play the kids and yet expect them to be good players every game week in week out. Gotta take the bad with the good and instil confidence in him at senior level as it will pay greater dividends in the long run.
He has a lot of good attributes

No one doubts his ability - it's his application.
There hasn't been much of it in recent times.
He just needs to find th footy and the VFL is the best place for him to do that.

PS I agree with D. Rioli. Should have been dropped long before he was. Ditto for Castagna, Aarts and Edwards in his final two years.
I am a big believer in standrads applying across the group.

he is a kid with
minimal game time trying his best. you’re way off, try watching his efforts, he is just low on confidence. Very easy to spot fro some.

This is what gets me, everyone expecting a young kid to do miracles when we had plenty riding on the tiger bus.

it's called second-year Blues... Sonsie/MRJ has em as well they showed glimpses of brilliance and we all got so excited and carried away and thought they had arrived and got a bit ahead of themselves as we did, consistency of application and effort will come if they knuckle down and work on their deficiencies and fitness to become more rounded team players. dimma identified this in march and now we are realisng it now with our next crop of youngsters.

There is a difference between playing poorly and not playing up to expectations.

Think the senior players that some have highlighted should be dropped are playing well below expectations; not necessarily poorly.

Cumberland has been playing poorly.

There are also some that would benefit from a stint in the two’s. I think Cumberland is one of them. Being dropped isn’t as dirty a word as some make it out to be.

Lads, a simple point to consider with this kid. With Lynch out injured and a 34 year old as the main key, this kid who has played sub 20 games is now copping the second best defender every week. He's on a massive learning curve currently.

Agree but technically it’s 4th year blues for Cumbo (drafted in 2019)

If Cotchin served up what Sonise, in particular, did last week and Cumberland, yes, he should be dropped.
I'm here to win games - pure and simple - not nurse champions to milestones.
We went through this crap last year with Edwards.
Not interested in hearing about how we aren't a bad side as we lost X-amount of games by less than X-amount of points when you keep on picking blokes who contribute nothing.
You get 50 per cent more effort on the very little Edwards, Aarts and Castagna provided last year, you win at least 50 per cent more of the close ones and all of a sudden you are fourth and have a double chance.
PS Cotch is cooked and it's sad. And a half good one against a depleted and already woeful West Coast had he played wouldn't have changed my mind.
sonise, i like it man

I don’t think dimma should’ve pointed him out during the press’s, not only that but he did it again this week in regards to the 50 mtr penalty, (which was the worst umpiring decision/rule ive seen in ages) .
how many of our Experienced players have given away dumb 50s ?
did any of them get a mention?

In both instances the response was to a question direct about Cumberland. And what was said versus how he said it were a stark difference.

I remember when Caddy gave away a 100m penalty a few seasons ago and Dimma was asked he was a lot more scathing. So I would disagree that experienced players aren’t immune from negativity over the journey.

In both press instances it didn’t come across as a shot across the bow or with any great negativity. At least in my view. In fact in both instances Dimma praised or was positive about Cumberland immediately after. I also would expect that Dimma and the line coaches would be talking during the week and if there was any bad air it would be cleared at that point.

The whole singling out during the presser has been way overblown in my opinion.

Certainly hope not because we dont have any other small forwards that have any potential like him.

But we have a great track record of trading small forwards thriving at other teams. Cant afford to lose another we dont have any right now, cant keep relying on prestia kicking a 3.

That 50m was a crock of shite. The ball goes out and he basically blocks it with is leg. If he had not done that the ball would have gone 20+m past. Instead the ball stopped 10m away, so effectively he was saving time not wasting it. Moronic call.

Cumberland is a hot and cold player who is unsure of where he has to run and what he has to do or allowed to do. He came in last year and just did what comes naturally, attack the ball and the goals. Half his goals were from just aggressive attacks on the ball it spilled loose and he capitalised.

This year apart from a few cameo's he looks to be second guessing himself in everything. He is not a natural high IQ footballer, but an explosive athlete who can make things happen. When out of form, he looks lost.

Needs to play some VFL football in the middle of the ground and learn to enjoy hunting the football and having a run and a kick and not worry about form or goals or tackling, just let it happen. He was drafted as a mid, so he knows the caper. This was said at the start of the season, but never really happened and came in with just average form. A bit like what they are doing with Dow in making him play at a high level each week, consistent football so that when his time comes he will be ready. They did it with Ross and it is starting to pay dividends. Clarke is another that needs to go back and get his hands on it.

Sickening thread filled with some serious nuff nuffs with no idea about football.
1 goal to half time for our entire side...Cumberland comes on and sets up 3 shots on goal within 5 minutes and suddenly we're only 3 points down.

Watch the game for yourselves. Does the kid need to improve in some areas? Yes. Is he easily best 22? Yes. Should he play every week? No ******* doubt

Kind regards,
Someone who highly rates Cumberland & has an IQ in triple digits
Needs to stop looking down at the ball when he's kicking.

The peanuts on mmm where having a ball taking the piss out of him, esp when the 50. Was surprised to see as they carried on like he had booted it over the fence deliberately. Was flipping annoyed couldn't find ABC on radio, but looking at it, I don't think anyone else woulda copped the 50 for that. flipping BS. Salt in the wound as he was having a shocker, poor bugger. Do our VFL have bye next week?

What the hell are you talking about. Yep, he’s inexperienced for sure but he’s been absolutely awful for 3 games in a row. He needs to return to VFL level to regain form. Deserves to be dropped on what he’s produced lately.

Yes. And he’s been shocking last 3 weeks. Dow has been playing well in the twos and currently deserves a game ahead of Noah. Yes, play different roles but others can be moved forward to accommodate Dow, a player showing good form
