It’s hard to impact games coming on late. Look at Clarke when he was sub.
I do accept that it’s not easy , and I worry for where the kids at . interesting whether we leave anyone in Vic or not , don’t think cotch will as they’ll want to get him to that 300 milestone sooner than later

I find it weird that people are coming down so hard on Cumberland. He is a young player trying to force his way into the side. Just because some posters pump him up doesn't mean other posters have to come down so hard. He was given a Q to do something in a pressure packed last Q. He did a couple of good things, he did a couple of not so good. End of story. He hardly 'stunk it up'. Until he plays a series of games to judge him on I don't think anyone can judge him fairly one way of another.

yep agree, back him in and show some faith, leave jack graham or cotch back in melb and get cumbo on a plane west for a full game.

Yeah I still think he may be way down in confidence and he really should’ve played after the Dreamtime game . I’m now concerned whether he is mentally tough enough to get out of it as he’s not playing like that cocky arrogant self. He looks scared to do what’s natural to him bc he wants to do the team thing. He needs to sort this out mentally and partition the two so he can make the right decision. ATM if Coulthard and Green continue step up he could be relegated further down the queue with Mansell. This is a good thing bc it means we will have kids fighting for spots and will make them more competitive , hungrier and the team better as well as themselves.

I think with respect there is too much reading the tea leaves. A lot of judging in regard to a young player that we don't know a lot about. Of course he looked a bit hesitant at times, fumbled a couple of times, but he was cold off the bench, could have happened to anyone.

Agree regarding Coulthard and Green. both looked very impressive. Coulthard has vision and time on the field to make good decisions, (judging on one game), and Green is a natural forward. Both should be looked at in the next few weeks if they play like they did on the weekend.

Boy oh boy there’s some gooses on here. Judging him on 1Q in which he revieved a heavy knock in his first contest😂

You can see some supporters wanting him to fail, so they can say see told you so. Pretty sure you’d rather be sprouting how right you are rather than see him play well
Yeah and it’s a group of posters who generally call people trolls if they make supposedly negative comments in their eyes. Yet they want a young kid to fail and are looking at any iota of negativity in his game so they can beat their chests saying I told you so. It’s the same with Miller and Bradtke is getting some heat as well. its hilarious how they can accept one in five good games from our champions and cover them with excuses like they cover ground, guard space, run half marathons, tackle harder , have stronger bodies so hit opponents harder , offer stability, experience etc etc.

Watching the game again Noah did all the 1 percenters, put his body on the line and halved contests, chased like a mad man and now we are upset he didn't kick the sausage rolls too ffs

I am hoping to have a good look at the replay later today. But if you are right(no reason to doubt you are) about Cumberland the club will be delighted with his efforts, he will win praise and be in line to be selected again. And it will show he has been well managed.

Re Noah, I think he’s been hardly done by, but if there’s someone performing at a higher level in the VFL and demanding selection then play them. I get frustrated when i don’t see the best 22 out there

I do think some people just tow the company line when it comes to Cumberland.

Faaaaaaarking lol.

Judging him on 1 quarter? No, judging him on the season to date.

Wanting him to fail? Not at all. Kid has more talent than most on the list, and as that hybrid size, is an important piece of the puzzle going forward.
It's not a problem being cocky and arrogant TigerImposter but that doesn't preclude anyone from still playing their role.

He just has to sort himself out in the head. He knows why he's been in the magoos, other players know why he's there as well. It's easily documented right from Dimmas comments in the presser, then watching the vision. (I didn't seem him lose focus on the weekend)

He has concentration problems. When he makes an effort, if it doesn't go right, he switches off the game and goes into his own headspace for a short period, thinking about what went wrong or "FFS'ing" it. He loses focus for short periods. This is what is being worked on.

He's been told to work on staying "in the moment" and immediately after a failed effort, turn to recovery or defensive effort. There's clear vision of him (I'll try and find the tweets, can't remember exactly what game) throwing his head back in disappointment and coming to a standstill after a failed effort. At this time the opponent recovers the ball and walks it out.

It's got nothing to do with quiet quarters and low possessions, that happens. It's just a quirk (early Jack similar) they want to weed out of his game.

I can understand your logic and concerns here EJW, but I think being singled out by the coach had a negative impact and the real issue here is I can bring up numerous visions of every single player that has played this season of where they’ve failed to do the team thing and cost us badly. Nankervis our captain I could do a Benny Hill 15 min sketch on. I think it was taken way too far with Noah and then the media used it more to bait Dimma and then the Dimma protection lobbyist group came to his rescue. The reality is if Dimma had of diffused it early there wouldn’t have been so much discussion that we’re having now. I think it got too personal in the end and the lack of inconsistencies by Dimma on other players inadequate performances was a tell tale to a lot of disharmony among the boys. The one thing I got out of yesterdays game was the boys were actually looking happier again and being more cohesive as a whole. I think we’d lost that all year and maybe a shallow win against a bottom five side could be the trigger we needed to kick off our season. The boys just needed something positive to come back as Dimma left us in a bad situation spiritually.

I do think some people just tow the company line when it comes to Cumberland.

I find it difficult to understand how supporters believe they know better about how players should be managed than the coaches/match committee.

It is not a matter of towing company lines. It is more a matter of weighing up the probabilities of the people the club has in place to make these decisions either:

1. having poor motivations

2. being poorly informed

3. having good motivations and information but still making bad decisions.

Judging by the evidence we have to go on, all of these things seem highly unlikely to me. The decisions are being made by successful experienced people who appear to be invested in what they are doing. I have good faith that this is the case. If there is strong evidence to say it is not the case at some point, then my view would change. But the way Noah Cumberland has been managed does not look like evidence of poor decision making to me. It looks the exact opposite to that. 2022 when he was playing well and in a manner in keeping with what the team needed, he was consistently selected. This year he was performing poorly within the team structure and omitted as a result.

I think talk of the coaches being to blame for his poor returns in games in 2023 is putting the player's "returns" ahead of what the team is trying to achieve overall. This should never be what Richmond is about. The only evidence of anything like this I have seen that I am a little uneasy about is the push to get first Edwards and now Cotchin to 300 games. The reason I am not greatly disturbed about this is the ready made replacements are just not there and fit and firing and ready to take over. So even the decision to keep older players in the team a little past their use by date I take on faith that it is likely buying time to allow younger players to develop that little bit longer at the lower level or in peripheral roles rather than getting smashed in an AFL team which might be struggling to maintain a strong structure.

I don't think he's being singled out at all.

The media focus, they asked Q's on Cumbo, Dimma answered. All he said was 1) playing for a similar spot to Dusty and 2) he knows what he needs to work on, it's up to him how good he wants to be

What about other players not getting a game that are being called on by supporters to get a game but aren't, are they being singled out too?

And sorry, I don't buy the happiness stuff. We got over Geelong when Dimma was there. We have been in every game bar one this year.

It's more to do with structure. Not having a fit, true KPF is killing our effectiveness in F50. We have Lynch, our Win/Loss probably flips and we're being talked about as Top 4 and a danger. Jack having an on day helped. If he's quiet next week, our conversion probably struggles again.

I just hate the SUB rule, i do feel for all players who get told they are to be that weeks sub because players just want to play, just another rule that is pointless and where the gutless clubs don't stand up to the AFL and demand it's removal. We have a interchange limit so why not just have 5 players on the bench that can come on and off at any time.

The AFL did the 3 and 1 and that got turfed in favour of the 4 but then some clubs had a whinge that they would be 1 short in a game so in came the concussion sub which very quickly turned into an any injury sub which quickly got exploited into an out of form sub so the AFL as usual instead of just turfing the sub make it a tactical sub.

Cumberland could've played a full game in the ressies to get some more form but gets promoted and sits on his arse for 3 qtrs because someone has too because you know, the AFL are so clever with their ideas.

Competing against Dusty ?lol EJW I think there was a lot of tension and disharmony and maybe it was the fact the boys knew Dimma was cooked and leaving. Just vibes seem better now . A PRO Dimma poster on here did mention that KDH in his last interview had been bagging out players which he never did in his tenure. It basically started this year on Cumberland and it was becoming more common.

born on the ides of March

love it
Who tells Caesar to beware of the Ides of March? The Soothsayer in Act 1, Scene 2 tells Caesar to beware of the Ides of March. Caesar ignores this warning, as well as many other warnings and omens. He is assassinated in the Senate on the Ides of March.

While I agree the young players learning the game should be given some leniency regarding their performance, the rule should apply to all the young players not a select few.

I would hope those advocating voraciously for Cumberland also apply the same standards to others like Mansell or Ralphsmith!

C’mon TI, if you’re going to quote someone like that, make sure it’s from credible sources.

Shakespeare doesn’t know what he was talking about. I think the best word to describe him is ‘campaigner’.

Caesar wasn’t assassinated on the Senate steps but in the Theatre of Pompey.

Shakespeare has no credibility.

HAHAHA I was just stressing the famous quote ,"Beware The Ides of March"
