I've been a very big critic of Cumberland but we have no forward options and if Mini is true to his word about "selection" integrity.... Then Cumberland deserves a recall against the Dees.
Kicked 3 against them in the 1st qtr last time too but was hardly seen after that.

Has to play.

NIWL kicked 3 in the first quarter in the VFL last Saturday and I jokingly reminded his Fanboy Karp3_dm that he wouldn't get another kick for the rest of the day. Ended up with six, but his mate reckons it could've been 12. ;)
I would give him another chance, but not as sub as he needs to be in the game early. The sub rule doesn't suit him imho.

Won’t play this week
Mini too soft

And **** me another VFL bye?? Seriously wtf is that fixturing

He's just about done then. VFL is a joke with all these byes.
Just about done??? bit dramatic… even for you TI

Hope he plays obviously, not sure Mini has the minerals to drop anyone tho
Mansell possibly, be bit harsh

I reckon Kmac should get dropped and Pickett back to wing, Cumbo forward

If we beat Melbourne and he doesn't play I reckon it will be hard to see him get back in. I believe minibus will only make the changes if we lose and it'll be the standard move of a kid for a kid.

Agree

Always hard to change a winning team to be fair tho..

But just play the in form players ffs!

How could they not play Cumberland, what more do they want from him, 6 goals and 2 goal assists out of 10 goals.

Mansell is okay but he gets 10 possessions and a tackle or two a game. He's okay up the ground but offers almost nothing near goals.
If we are going to beat Melbourne, we might want more than Miller and Jack who are going at under a goal a game.

Is scoreboard pressure no longer a thing.

10 goals from about 11 full games worth of minutes this season Mansell.

Cumberland 7 goals from around 6 full games worth of minutes this season.

Looking across all their stats this season at AFL level there wouldn't be too much to choose between them. Obviously Mansell is doing a better job of following instructions somewhere along the line, because he has been selected a lot more.

I'll just look at last weekend and one bloke contributed to 8 out of 10 goals, and one bloke had 10 disposals and no goals, are they not stats.

Mansell needs to be upgrade and it has to be either NIWL or MRJ.
I quite like Mansell as a player, he's a half back or a wingman maybe being asked to play a pressure forward, so in that respect yes. MRJ has not quite gotten to where he could be this season, so he and Mansell are about the same. MRJ's good game in the VFL is a bonus.

When you are in the position we are in right now, just knocking on the 8's door, it seems we have 2 options. One, play safe and hopefully we can hang on and make the finals with what we have right now, or take a bit of a gamble on a risk reward basis, not that I see great risk with Cumberland, but like any young player they offer the risk of not firing. But on the contrary he is sort of what we are missing right now, a medium forward who can actually kick goals.

He has earned a recall. Can you think of any young player who you know has played good AFL football previously, after kicking 6 out of 10 goals and not being promoted?

Unfortunately NIWL recent form in AFL hasn't been good. So that question is null and void.
I still would be looking at making the side faster and NIWL or MRJ are the better options than Mansell. Melbourne can be beaten , but only with speed and run.

To start, they don't just look at goal tallies to pick a team. Theres an entire gameplan and structure we they need to implement, individual performances have not meant much in Richmond for a long time. If Mansell in over Cumberland = a better structure and better overall performance, then it doesn't matter who kicks more individual goals.

I'll just look at last weekend and one bloke contributed to 8 out of 10 goals, and one bloke had 10 disposals and no goals, are they not stats.

One bloke played exclusively deep forward at VFL level in a loss, and the other bloke played a mixture of forward and back at AFL level in a win. This of course isn't the whole picture, but neither is your "contributed to 8 out of 10 goals."

Let's see if Cumbo is picked this week. He certainly had plenty of impact on the scoreboard.

I used to study cricket to within an inch of it's life for betting purposes. One question I was looking at was in ODI matches was why doesn't the highly rated Kevin Pietersen seem to make his team win when he is making piles of runs. I dug into the history of many of his innings and compared it with a player who did seem to make his team win. I concluded that a 75 from 100 balls from Ponting was often a lot more valuable in terms of winning the game than a 100 from 100 balls from Pietersen in a similar situation, even though at first glance this does not make sense. The reason was that players who batted with Ponting benefitted much more from the way he played and those who batted with Pietersen were often placed under enormous pressure by the way he played. I could explain in deeper detail but in short the error Pietersen was making was he was doing what was in Pietersen' interests and the opposition teams interests at the same time, so the opposition would let him do it. And his team-mates suffered badly, and were on a constant revolving door in and out of the team while the "great" Pietersen remained to the team's detriment. And the commentators would say time after time "thank god for Pietersen's 120 out of 220 runs today because without that England would barely have scored 100." It was a very good money maker for me to bet against Pietersen's team when he was well set.

Anyway, this may have nothing to do with what Cumberland's issues are. But a forward who helps his team-mates to function well around him is always going to be a lot more valuable than a forward who doesn't help his team-mates function well around him. I remain open minded about Cumberland, I just don't know where things are heading with him. If he kicks on and becomes a very good AFL player it won't shock me, but if he is traded this year or delisted when his contract is up after 2024 that won't shock me either. Equally he could be selected or overlooked this week without surprising me.
