Like to see Cumbers come in v Hawks. Looked good and backed up his game from the previous week.

Noah Cumberland (14 disposals, six marks, five inside-50s, two goals)

"One of the more dynamic, explosive players on the ground. The opposition found it really difficult to tackle him, and he won contests ahead of the footy. He was selfless at times, which was great to see, and I was really pleased with his output."

He's not lazy. He just seems to switch off a bit sometimes when the ball isn't in his hands.

Just has to get used to knowing where he should be and what he should be doing for the whole match, rather than just when the ball is heading his way.

Agree. He goes with great intensity when the ball is in his area and when he is thinking about chasing tackling etc. Just not as instinctive as others to do the repeated effort. That will come. He needs a few more games in the VFL to round out his game, like most young players.

Exactly.. he’s from Queensland after all
What do you expect?

Maybe he just needs to be in the play more...

Play a Lambert type role where he starts HF but roles up into the play for the majority.

It would be great for him to try this in the VFL to see if he has the concentration
Does he have the engine/gut running ability? I feel he is a lot more burst and momentum based VS Kane's road runner style.

I dont mind it though, think it's absolutely worthwhile to experiment this in the VFL.

It's a doubt obviously, but one way to find out...

And at VFL level it's a good starting point

He is definitely a burst fast twitch type player, but the VFL is also a few steps down in speed and intensity. He could learn to pace himself a bit more and build up those repeated bursts that he has more often. Dusty was a bit that way when he started, Bolton the same and it took them quite a few years before they could do it all game.

Cumberland set the bar pretty high last season, but there is always more scrutiny and pressure the more you play, especially when we were losing early in the season, so he/they found some weaknesses in his game, one being as you say the tank to play higher up the ground. Pretty normal for most young players. I thought he showed more signs in the VFL last week. Only got 14 possessions but he covered a lot more ground and looked dangerous and composed and used it well.

Has to come in.

Miller seems like a good dude, but he clearly isn't a forward. There has been four or five times this year he has passed off rudimentary shots
The hilarious thing is for a big man, he is actually highly skilled by foot. It's either an inexperience thing or a lack of confidence / mental strength to back himself and take ownership of the moment.
