football wtf GIF by Sethward

That play where he gave away a free at full forward which lead to the cheats getting a goal sums his up, one of the worst to ever pull on our jumper

Yeah idk chief.

What is his point of difference at this stage? Not a single mark taken against a Frankenstein-old opponent.

Draper would've monstered him. I'm nervous.
It's supposed to be his physicality and follow up contested work, but unfortunately I don't think it really suits our current/future midfield group and he just gets in the way. We need a ruckman who can take a contested grab and unfortunately Tristan has concrete hands

He should be trying to mark the footy at the highest point so it increases the chances of a free kick paid. I feel like he's just not going for it hard enough.

No. Give him a full preseason first. If he looks s**t next year after a full preseason the pin pulling will be imminent
How many preseasons does he get? He has been on our list for six seasons and if you measure his improvement over that time you would be measuring it in millimetres, because it is so negligible.

He is not AFL standard, never will be of AFL standard and we need to trade him, delist him, bury him somewhere in the desert, just get him off our list at the end of the season.

The campaigner is just shit.
I mean he’s not a great tap ruckman, can’t mark and is useless at ground level.
Forward craft is non-existent.

Two more years on his deal I mean what the actual f*** are we doing.
This bloke is costing us winnable games of football which is setting back developement of the talent on the list.

Enough.

Cut him and find a serviceable replacement ffs

I’d rather Tom Campbell

This guy will not make it as a number #1 ruck. How many times during a game does he try and take it from a ruck contest and gets nowhere. l'm all for trying to find a trade for him and getting in someone else or maybe for the last 2 games let Free have a go with Goldy. Its not as if we have anything to lose...

Ooops forgot Free was injured...

I’m pretty sure he has next to no value now. In hindsight we should have let him go to St Kilda.

I think we need to get creative in the next couple of years to try and fix the issue.

Overpay for a very good ruck in Grundy, but it’s not the long term solution at his age or go for someone like Flynn from GWS who has fallen out of favour?

I don’t know the answer, but agree that Xerri and CCJ are taking us nowhere and Goldy is cooked.

Free is done for the season

Not to sound like a walking cliche, but big men take time. It can take upwards of five preseasons. He looked like he'd take the next step at the start of this year then went down with a bad injury.

All the angst is pointless anyway, because there's absolutely no chance he's off the list come the end of the year

He’s six years deep. And is VFL level at best.

Goldy after six seasons was top class.

Xerri ain’t it.

Agree. However we would not have to overpay for Grundy as the Pies are paying 30% of his contract already...So we could offer a bit more than the Dees are giving him to maybe get him.
Flynn would also be a good get but we must get rid of Xerri first..Then CCJ..

He's had a few games at VFL level against decent opposition where he has absolutely tore it to shreds from a ground level/follow up perspective, which gives the suggestion that he may have some Tom Hickey grinder-type potential in him.

16 touches, 28 hitouts, 2 tackles, 6 clearances vs Coburg this year (first game back from injury, managed TOG I believe)
29 touches, 31 hitouts, 7 tackles, 11 clearances vs Williamstown this year
36 touches, 27 hitouts, 6 tackles, 8 clearances vs Essendon VFL last year
26 touches, 21 hitouts, 5 tackles, 7 clearances vs Southport last year

I'd bet they're holding out hope that he can translate this^^^ to AFL level at some stage, but clearly that hasn't happened yet and we all wonder whether it will. The thing he has in his favour is how injury-prone he's been, which leaves the question of what he could be with a decent run and some confidence in a half-decent side.
