Incidents and confusion involving dead balls are incredibly rare as is this particular mode of dismissal. Id say the rules are therefore very clear and don't provide the drama and debate you seem to think happens so often.

This was a potentially Ashes test deciding incident. They don't have to happen every day to be a problem.

Wonder if they will give Hazlewood a rest or go for the kill shot

Khawaja
Warner
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Cummins
Starc
Boland
Murphy

I think that will be the team.

Doubt they would risk Hazelwood on the quick back up given his injury issues over the last few years.

I reckon the Starc > Boland > Hazelwood rotation has been the plan since before they went over and they haven't had any reason to change course.

If the poms put up a complete seamer maybe they would go in with the 4 quicks and not pick Murphy but I doubt it.

MS Dhoni showing us all how it should be done.

Difference there is that the fielder was acting as if the ball had gone for four and was dead.

Under the newish fake fielding rule that’s probably penalty runs.

Carey didn’t do anything like that, he just picked the ball up and threw it at the stumps.

He wasn’t acting, he landed outside the rope

I agree. Bairstow should have been much more aware given the gravity of the situation. Not a rules problem. A Bairstow problem.

It is a both problem. Bairstow was an idiot, the wording of the rules is sh*t and could be easily fixed, and Cummo was a bit of a dog, as other captains in the same situation would have let him off.

Let him off? This is the Ashes. Not Christmas Day backyard cricket after 13 beers. You do what’s within the rules to win. We did that

Other captains wouldn’t have let him off. Stokes wouldn’t have, it’s rubbish to say other captains would let him off

No way Stokes would have walked back that if the roles were reversed.

Zero chance.

Who are these captains?

Socials are currently full of examples where the captain (many of them English), has not let the batter off.

Stokes himself had a similar one last summer and didn’t call CDG back.

Bazball is a myth.

It's absolutely nothing that the Australians weren't doing 20 years ago when they had guys like Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Gilchrist and Hussey in the top order. Hayden would routinely walk straight at the opposition quicks and club them to all parts. Gilchrist, when he retired held the Test record for most 6's in his career.

The Poms are trying to con everyone that they have invented a new way of playing cricket. They haven't. It's just an inferior version of what we perfected, carried out irresponsibly as they don't have the quality in place to pull it off.
It is also high risk with marginal reward. This is a modern trend in sport. Go as hard as and when it inevitably stuffs up, you can stick your chest and say well at least we are being positive and attacking and blah blah blah.

Same in AFL without mentioning teams so we go OT ...

Yeah, if you look at his actual quotes he just says he'd have to think about it, blah blah.

If it were reversed the poms would have accepted the wicket with glee.

This is all that needs to be said.

Really excited to see how Murph goes - he will probably be targeted, but he's a sharp lad, and has a lot of clever deliveries to his kit! :D
