My proper write up:

Saad El Hawli is a speed demon who went to Werribee as a small forward and struggled for consistency, before moving to the Bullants and spending most of his time off half back where he uses his pace and to break lines and rebound. At 184 cm he leans on the smaller side. He can also play on a wing but has done his best work from behind the ball.

Strengths:

• Speed
• Kicking
• Rebounding

Improvements:

• Marking
• Defense

For someone who needs to improve his marking, that was one hell of a hanger he took in that short highlights video. Seems like improvement might see him as the next Tony Modra.

He's a bit inconsistent with it. Has taken some really good ones but also some average efforts.

Strong endurance runner, above average athlete, can take an overhead mark, rangy frame, skills look neat enough. Competes hard.

Happy with the selection. Don't watch a lot of VFL but have a friend who is a keen observer. His take was that Saad had a light bulb moment over the off season and really got himself into shape. The move back has allowed him to read the play better and then springboard. As others have described is a player that could play AFL now in a pinch.

Nothing to lose and everything to gain.. especially if he can play multiple position with pace and range. Hope he is another Durham.
