Would rather see him play some afl games than Mckay. Mckay is not part of future but who knows, Dawson could come in and get himself off the chopping block

I don't know if Xerri WANTED to leave in the same way other players want to leave, we forget he's a BFNAAK. He wasn't getting games despite strong performances in the VFL and he was worried about not having opportunities in the future, which is a pretty rational thing to worry about when you only have so much time in your career.I wasn't calling you out as such (enjoy your comments fwiw) just making the observation that it's simply hard to predict the future. And fair enough to go in to bat for esteemed posters who had been pillared.
Yeah a 3rd rounder would've been fine imo, especially since he wanted to leave and I rate building an environment where everyone in it has bought in. In hindsight we tried to do what Richmond did to us with CCJ but the Saints were too smart. Xerri can still be a decent ruck but any star potential has well and truly left the building.
But on topic, poor Dawson. The writing's on the wall.

I dunno, they all acknowledged there needs to be quite severe cuts.Listening to the qnA i don’t think he is on the way out.
Not withstanding they said his name was up in selection committee and that he has been ticking the boxes the last month. There will be cuts.I dunno, they all acknowledged there needs to be quite severe cuts.

Yeah sounds like he’s at least going to get an opportunity but Rawlings emphasised needed to cut the list back (about the only thing of substance he said). I take he's going to get one last chance to make a go of it (but a fair chance, especially given the injury to Logue).Listening to the qnA i don’t think he is on the way out.
Ratten talked him up but there has been absolutely no evidence of him even being in their wildest plans at any stage of the year.
You don’t want to wait?We need Kallan to come on, otherwise we're up Dawson Creek.
Could be a number of thingsAs above it was nice talk but feels empty because they've played every short, old, injured option ahead of him at every chance.
In for youngJust have to give the bloke a chance to prove himself. Not like he can do any worse, than anyone who's already out there
This bloke is a mystery. Has had a very solid second half of the year, but has not been selected for a single senior game (not even as an emergency I think), despite Log going down and our defence needing help. I don't know what he has or hasn't done to not get a sniff, but for whatever reason it's clear the selection committee don't rate him and he won't be around next year. Baffling.Up there with Lazz as one of our best on the weekend in the VFL. Played on Kaelen Bradtke for most of the day and kept him to 0.0 and only 8 disposals. Peeled off and had at least a couple of solid intercept/contested marks. Only seen him get the one goal kicked on him and that wasn't against Samson Ryan who it 204cm.
Over the last 5 weeks he has really taken his game to another level imo. Displaying the type of form that got him drafted in the first place. Considering the lack of talls in this upcoming draft I'd be more than willing to give him another year on the rookie list. Even if it is purely as depth, it's going to be better than some kid taken in the rookie draft that is 75kg wringing wet.
Last 5 weeks.
Avg'd: 18.8 disposals, 7.6 marks

Agree. But we didn't play him when McKay/Log/Corr were out this year, so why would they keep him for next year?If McKay leaves we'd be silly not to keep him imo.
