Aaron Hall to Kangaroos as players begin to head north

North Melbourne were set to catch up with the Suns over the weekend to discuss the terms of trade for Aaron Hall who has expressed a desire to join the Kangaroos.

The club confirmed that the 27-year-old toured the facility on Friday and was expected to have a medical as a precursor to the deal being negotiated.

The midfielder played 103 games with the Suns and was good enough to be awarded three Brownlow votes in each of the first three rounds of 2016 to lead the medal.

However he fell out of favour this season, playing just six games in 2018 as new Suns coach Stuart Dew attempts to reshape his list.

The Kangaroos believe there has been too much focus on Hall's limitations rather than what he can offer and believe he will flourish in their environment.

North are set for a busy trade period with Port Adelaide's Jared Polec already indicating he wants to join the club while they are patiently waiting for West Coast free agent Andrew Gaff to decide whether he also wants to join.

Uncontracted Sydney Swans defender Nic Newman toured the club this week with the 25-year-old also understood to be of some interest to Carlton.

The Kangaroos have made an offer to defender Sam Wright who is a free agent while negotiations with midfielder Jed Anderson have dragged on.

North Melbourne also anticipate losing ruckman Braydon Preuss who did not play a senior game this season after failing to dislodge Todd Goldstein from the No.1 ruck spot.

Melbourne have expressed some interest in Preuss but serious discussions about that prospect aren't expected to take place until after the Demons are out of the finals series and other ruckmen have made their intentions clear.

The Demons' preliminary final opponent West Coast have taken significant steps towards filling the rucking hole created if Scott Lycett decides to join Port Adelaide.

They are interested in contracted St Kilda ruckman Tom Hickey and Western Bulldogs free agent Jordan Roughead with Nic Naitanui recovering from his second knee reconstruction.

The Giants also dropped a bombshell on Friday when it was revealed they were looking to trade contracted defender Jeremy Finlayson.

The 22-year-old has played 15 games with the Giants and had signed a two-year extension ths season.

He could join midfielder Dylan Shiel and ruckman Rory Lobb on the trade table with both players contracted but understood to be open to trades.

Lobb is on Fremantle's radar while several clubs are interested in Shiel, including Carlton who are also keen on Adelaide's Mitch McGovern.

Hate to dampen all this excitement but Hall and Newman won't make us a top four team. Both are 27 or older and can't get regular games at their own clubs. We need A graders not depth players. We should be concentrating on getting a second first round draftee. I'm seriously worried about our direction. Anyone else?

I think you’re an idiot. Anyone else?

Hall has some very exciting attributes. We just have to make sure we use them at the right time and to our advantage.

Hall and Newman added to Polec and a good chance of Gaff puts us in the frame.

We can only afford so many A-graders.

They dont have to be best on the list. Just better than the bottom two in our teams best 22 and they'll improve the team.

No.

And Newman’s 25.

If you need to mis-state facts, you don't have an argument.

Hall's best is very good. Newman is good depth and perhaps an upgrade in the back line. What's to worry about?

Which of the following did you think were A-graders when they switched clubs:

Joel Hamling
Shane Biggs
Tom Boyd
Jacob Townsend
Bachar Houli
Shaun Grigg
Josh Caddy
Toby Nankervis

And that's just premiership players from the past 2 years! You might be about to add the likes of Greenwood, Mayne, Aish, Crisp, Howe, Varcoe & Hoskin-Elliott to that list.

On their own, no, but we’re adding Polec and Gaff. Two A graders in a position of need. Newman is a solid B/fringe player. Hall is a absolute wildcard.

Feel the tassie connection played a part in him wanting to come to us
Would imagine it helps. Family man, gets to see his family 3 times a year that he normally wouldn't

No - flags are being won from clubs coming from nowhere.
Hall is a very big need for our club and having him this year , would ofwon us 4 extra games.
Newman I like - jmac/Lmac/Clarke upgrade

Qualify for finals in the top 4 and anything can happen as we continue to see. The players coming onboard will certainly go along way in making that happen.
