I remember hearing about this kid about 3-4 years ago and despite his talent there where question marks over his fitness and potential go home factor, looks like he has just about done about all he could to get his chance at playing afl. Good on him for sticking to his goal and good luck to him next year!

I remember being very happy when we put him on the VFL list, he had a lot of people who follow the draftees very excited.

Doesn't have the requisite tank to be a full time AFL player yet.

He is. He's a small and stocky running defender with pace, agility and sublime kicking skills off both feet.

He's also got a bit of Mongrel about him. Gets in the oppositions faces.

So tippa was training with the forwards up until the announcement. I think he will be used down back, with some midfield minutes. Well that's where I believe he will be best use to us.
It's the first time in years we have some genuine small forwards, our backline however will need all the help it can get.

I would expect Tippa (aka 'Walla'), Hams and McKenna to be upgraded. Walla and Hams under the list concession rules (which is a temporary upgrade for this year I think) and McKenna as a normal start-of-year/fill-the-list (permanent) rookie upgrade.

Being CatB, McKenna can't be upgraded through the list concessions without special leave through the AFL General Counsel, otherwise I'd put Walla on the normal upgrade and McKenna on the temporary upgrade, I think.

Whilst Tippa is an exciting talent, he's still a long term prospect at this stage. Don't be surprised if they don't upgrade anyone except Hams.

Do you think we'd run short on our senior list (save on player payments)? Or upgrade him but not select him? I highly doubt Long, Wallis or Nyuon get upgraded, so that only leaves three to choose from :p

There's no point in promoting him unless you're going to play him.

Don't you have to start the season with 40 players on your main list?
No. Several teams only have the 38 on the main list. Hell, you can start with 25, so long as you have 22 on the park and 3 emergencies it doesn't matter.

Yep port opted to go into the season with a player short for salary cap reasons. Then they whinged they had one less player than Essendon. They always had one less as they chose to do this. Koch heads!

Whatever it is it would be in the collective bargaining agreement
Yes it is and screw you guys for making me look it up

minimum on primary list is 38, maximum is 40

clubs may promote up to 2 rookies to the primary list (up to the maximum of 40) at the end of the pre-season

if they still have less than 40 they can promote another rookie mid-season
