im not suggestiong he should be used as some kind of symbolic token, but his story is what our club should be aspiring to emulate.

He has worked and worked and worked, showed persistence, not given up and has finally seen the rewards.

As a club we ened to do the same to get out of this mire.

FWIW i think the fitness thing has now been overplayed, sure his tank was putrid to begin with but its nearing AFL standard now, if not already there, from the games i saw of him in the VFL last year he dosent look out of place, infact his skills look too good for VFL, if what woosha says is true and he has built over the pre season again to have an AFL ready tank i must say im very excited.

....and 105k in dream team... and dual position. i dont care how many of my league mates call me one eyed, hes a lock.

His fitness was never not going to be an issue once we got him into the system so he didn't have to work and study and play at the same time

Early highlights reel. I've never seen anyone look slow and quick-ish at the same time; it's some kind of sorcery.

Jumping the gun massively (he might not get a kick tomorrow), but I see a fair bit of Leon Davis about him.

Leon gets mocked, rightfully in some aspects, but at his best was almost impossible to beat one on one - don't remember seeing him lose a contest after Malthouse moved him back.

My guess is Tippa will be similar - strong, fast and balanced. We need this - haven't had enough guys who can regularly win one on one contests for a while now.

Much harder at the ball than Leon Davis ever was without that top line speed.

Not sure you're recollection of Davis is that accurate. He was dropped for the grand final replay. Solid, impossible to beat one on one players are not dropped for grand final replays.

Seriously, how many people at 14 can take the sort of steps this guy did to change their life and pursue a dream? At 14 I was just day dreaming about my future, actively pursuing it wasn't even a thought.

Have so much admiration for people who take control of their own destiny and change their circumstances.

I know what I was doing at 14...

Anyone know where to find a copy of that footage talked about in the article of his reaction to getting drafted?

That was the enigma of Leon Davis....I said he was flawed and the main flaw was his inability to play well in big games. Hence dropped for GF replay despite being an All-Australian player. That doesn't change the reality of how good he could be when he was switched on.

Besides which, the comparison was a very specific one relating to an ability to win one on one contests...when he was on, he very rarely lost one.
