The recruitment of Setterfield means we now have 8 1st round draft picks from the last 3 drafts. Should be able to build a pretty handy team around this.

Edit: make that 9, I forgot about Bam Bam.
14 first rounders from the last 5 drafts. With this talent (and others like Fisher), you wonder where a player like Walsh would sit, what impact would he make and when.

Cripps (13)
Lang (16)
Pickett (4)
Marchbank (6)
Garlett (15)
Weitering (1)
McKay (10)
Curnow (12)
Kennedy (13)
Cuningham (23)
Setterfield (5)
SPS (6)
Dow (3)
O’Brien (10)

Welcome Will Setterfield. Carlton a perfect place to lay your hat down and unpack your talent.

Good luck.

I wasn’t impressed with the “special assistance” package, but by throwing them in the mix we got ...

- Setterfield for a future second rounder

- McGovern for a second rounder and another second bumped to the third round.

SOS really used those picks to perfection.

Let me debunk this myth.

A-Grader/Potentials:

Cripps
Dow
SPS
Setterfield
Walsh

B to B+/Potentials
Murphy
Curnow
Fisher
Kennedy
LOB

Older/Depth
Lang
Cuningham
Pickett
Garlett
Kerridge
Graham

We have 10 very good midfielders. There is a spine of 7 already including ruck. Dochherty Simpson Polson Fasolo make 21.

Last spot someome probably a Thomas/Williamson type.

This wont be the same list as 2018...EVERYONE in the midfield is a year better, perhaps except Ed and Murphy.

A few more mids would be nice...but to say we NEED 6 is sheep-minded mythical crap.
I would have fish in the A grade potential group.

was my no.1 target at start of trade period, glad we got him done. not cheap in the end (SOS said on TR points = pick 15 if we finish last next year) but if he stays healthy, he'll be a gem.
Relisten to what he said "based on our current position", what we gave equated in points to pick 15.

When you consider that included pick 42 which cost us nothing, and we might finish higher than last next year, then we haven't given as much away

Perhaps pay attention to detail mate. I said "if we finish last next year". So you basically tried to say the same thing.

Pick 42 is still pick 42, but its good we got it for free.

I was contesting the "not cheap" element. I have to disagree with you on that.

What it should mean is that there's no rush for him to make an immediate impact, but it would be a huge bonus if he did. :)

Do we know why he wanted out of GWS so soon?

HARKER did you figure it out?

I have no idea and the 'Salary Cap' thing still makes little sense to me.
How much trouble could have they been in when quitting a 350-400K player makes all the difference, after moving on Lobb, Shiel and likely Scully?

Maybe GWS put all their eggs into the 2017/8 basket and now they're paying for not having done better. I don't know..

I would guess that in Setterfield’s case, it’s not so much about being over the salary cap, as the flexibility an extra 400k gives them next year and the year after. He’s been injured, wants out, is unlikely to have a big impact at the Giants in the next 2 years.

That flexibility helps them retain Coniglio, Kelly etc.

I suspect you are right with the 2017/18 basket.

I also think their salary cap problems are more significant than the rumoured 1 Mil.

Watching his highlights ... my mind cast back to a young Mark Whiley.

While it described himself as a battler in his Welcome to CFC vid. Setterfield is a former high draft pick a number of recruiters considered the best player, or close to, in that draft.

He reminds me of Pendles.
