Wasn't talked up as a potential selection at all, was he? So he's probably another bolter. Feel a bit iffy about that. Ah well. Go well mate

He was talked up, but more so this week and firmed for us over the last few days. Fremantle were really keen on him.

Like I said in earlier posts he comes from a very grounded family.

His dad was an absolute gun in the Goldfields league and played for WA. Pure silk.

If he has his old man’s workrate and willingness to win, he’ll become a fan favourite very quickly.

I’m rapt he’s with us as Freo we’re absolutely going to pick him.

Do we have a coffee shop yet?

A bloke who brings forward pressure, provides good forward entries, and can kick goals.

Straight in this week please.

3 goals in 5 games this year in the WAFL…

Let’s go easy. A small forward is a piece of the puzzle we definitely need, and am very happy we took him over say Tucker, but 10 disposals and 0.6 goals a game this year in the WAFL shows he’s a kid who should get the next 18 months.

Don’t need to expect him anything from him this year bar hard work on the track and some valuable lessons at VFL level

I really like it. There are more question marks around a younger player in the MSD, particularly when they're raw, but it's a position of need and what you're looking for is AFL level traits, which I think he has. Is there a chance he doesn't make it? Yeah sure, but there's enough there with him to justify the pick.

Zippy, very good defensive pressure, unselfish, good skills.

Only had Brandon Ryan and Ethan Stanley ahead of him on my preferred list.

Navigating the WAFLs stats page which, given timezones, is 3 hours and 30 years behind the east coast, it appears RHJ’s stats for this year for Subiaco seniors are:
5 games
Ave 10.2 disposals
Ave 1.8 scoring shots
Total score 3 goals 6 behinds

Welcome!

Sitting with family and friends in his Belmont home, the moment of finally getting drafted wasn’t lost on Robert Hansen Jr as he officially became North Melbourne player.
As revealed by The West Australian, the Kangaroos caused a shock by selecting the Lions bolter with pick two after being linked with Eastern Ranges tall Clay Tucker.
North were one of six clubs to speak with Hansen Jr in the lead up to the draft including the Dockers who were likely to swoop on him if he was still on the board.

He became the first West Aussie picked up in this year’s mid-season draft after not getting any interest in last year’s national and rookie drafts.
“It’s unreal,” Hansen Jr told The West Australian.
“It makes me feel a lot better about myself because I didn’t give up.”
Hansen Jr was excited about getting to work at Arden St and the potential of sharing the forward-line with the likes of Nick Larkey, Cameron Zurhaar and Jaidyn Stephenson in the future.

He’d spoken with the Roos a couple of times in the lead up to the draft but only found out they were going to pick him up hours before his name was called out.
Subiaco coach Beau Wardman has been impressed with Hansen Jr’s work ethic and drive since starting his first senior pre-season.
The 19-year-old broke into the Lions’ league side in round two, booting two goals against East Perth, and played the next four games in a row before missing Saturday’s win over Swan Districts with illness.
“I think he had a real drive,” Wardman recalled.

“He’s worked closely with forwards coach Kara Antonio and Ryan Borchet and Ben Sokol have taken him under their wing in that forward half of the ground.
“He’s played with some freedom and been really diligent with his work off the field.
“Seeing someone like (cousin and West Coast player) Tyrell Dewar get drafted and go into the AFL system has been a good learning for him and provided that added motivation for him.”
Dewar was watching on as Hansen Jr realised his AFL dream, seven months after he did.
“He just said congratulations and well deserved,” Hansen Jr said.
Hansen Jr will get at least 18 months to impress after opted for a longer-term deal as part of his draft conditions.

Not sure what articles you're reading but my understanding was that he was one of two or three players we were certain to take. He was also one who was definitely going to get taken if we didn't select him.
