Do not post conspiracy theories on this forum. We have an entire other forum for that.

Thanks all.

Congrats Royces Hart on the new thread title!

I feel so sorry for the conservative leader of Canada. Pierre Poilievre

he had the election won and done....and then Trump has done and screwed him royally.

Surely Trump's antics are gonna make Dutton's aspirations harder to realise. That's one good thing I guess.

I was gonna say, I wonder if Trudeau regrets standing down. His stance against Trump is very reminiscent of McGowan's against Scomo, which made him crazy popular.

It’s not traditional conservatism.

But successive lazy right wing parties have embraced it instead of providing real solutions
Is it laziness? I think it’s about deflecting attention from the actual cause of problems because, for the people doing the deflecting, they’re not problems. They’re the goal.

So conservatives were screaming until they were blue in the face about grocery and gas prices. Trump brings in measures that will further increase these. But suddenly cost of living isn’t an issue because DEI initiatives have been rolled back, and government websites have been removing the “T” from LGBT.

Sure they won’t be able to afford to feed their families but hey, at least it’ll be harder for a black person to get a job and trans people will feel unrecognised. Those are the really important things, right?

Conservatives are legitimately ****ed in the head.
So true. His supporters love him not for what he does to make their lives better but because he attacks the people they hate.

I don't think he regrets it in the slightest to be honest. The next few months will be all about securing his legacy within the minds of the Canadian people.

If he can unite the provinces (including Trump wannabe Danielle Smith) against Trump and guide the country through the next few months of uncertainty, he'll have recovered a lot of his reputation in the eyes of Canadians.

The massive winner in this is probably Carney, who's the front runner for the liberal party (left wing over here). He'll hopefully come in on a wave of support for the incumbent government standing up to the US.

Meanwhile Pierre Poilevre has spent the last few months bashing Trudeau and buddying up with Jordan Peterson and Elon Musk, which in the last few weeks has flipped public opinion of him massively.

When the Wall Street Journal calls out your economic policies as 'Dumb' then most US Presidents would listen. Not this one - he's doubling down on his dumbness and it is likely to cost his country and its citizens dearly.

Leaving China aside, Mr Trump's justification for his economic assault on the neighbours makes no sense. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says they've "enabled illegal drugs to pour into America." But drugs have flowed into the U.S. for decades, and will continue to do so as long as Americans keep using them. Neither country can stop it.

Drugs may be an excuse since Mr Trump has made clear he likes tariffs for their own sake. "We don't need products that they have," Mr Trump said on Thursday. "We have all the oil you need. We have all the trees you need, meaning the lumber"

Mr Trump sometimes sounds as if the U.S. shouldn't import anything at all, that America can be a perfectly closed economy making everything at home. This is called
autarky, and isn't the world we live in, or one we should want to live in, as Mr Trump may soon find out. (N.B. North Korea and Nazi Germany are two examples of nations that have pursued a policy of autarky)

Take the U.S. auto industry, which is really a North American industry, because supply chains in the three countries are highly integrated. In 2024 Canada supplied almost 13% of U.S. imports of auto parts and Mexico nearly 42%. Industry experts say a vehicle made on the continent goes back and forth across borders a half a dozen times or more, as companies source components and add value in the most cost effective ways.

Tariffs will also cause mayhem in the cross border trade in farm goods. Mexico food exports made up about 23% of total U.S. agricultural imports while Canada supplied 20%. Many top U.S. growers have moved to Mexico because limits on legal immigration have made it hard to find workers in the U.S. Mexico now supplied 90% of avocados sold in the U.S. Is Mr Trump now an avocado nationalist?

He's like the ghost of Verwoerd.
Every day, you see a man you know committing a very serious crime for which millions of people suffer. You cannot take him to court or report him to the police, because he is the law in the country. Would you remain silent and let him continue with his crime, or would you do something to stop him?

Now the moron has conceded that the tariffs will cause ‘some pain’ for the US. Apparently there was ‘some pain’ in the 1930s too, after politicians imposed tariffs to protect their economies in the recession that followed the sharemarket collapse of 1929. They called it the Great Depression.
But hey, Chump’s not going to worry about historical patterns when there’s a bigger game to be played. After all, he’s got a political point to protect.
Can any of his supporters on here find a way to support this latest stupidity? I await with interest.

You'll be waiting around a while.

That's quite interesting on the US automobile manufacture and can only lead to higher prices for Americans
