Green (nearly 19) and Smith (just turned 18) are speculative picks for sure… But they‘re packing their bags and they won’t die wondering…You can tell that from their highlights…All the very best to you boys…👏

I don’t think green with his cv is what you call speculative , state capt and best performed 18yo in WAFL , he ll take 12mth to fill out but he ain’t speculative in the sense of a uni blues Amos type roll of the dice

Green's highlight reel is a hell of a lot more impressive than Smith's. Chances are both will be delisted in a few years but at least Green looks (again solely from the highlight reel) a real footballer.

Not sure why you’d say both likely delisted , do you need a reminder how many of our rookie list players are multi premiership players ,, we’re not ruddy norf you know

Simply because they were selected with pretty rubbish picks late in the draft so the odds are against them. The fact is if we get even one of them to become a serviceable player after having sold the farm for Taranto and Hopper it's a bonus. It might happen but it probably won't. But yeah we'll see.

I says we’ve made good with rookie picks let alone top 50 that have good CV , no case for that

Apparently we had him as a top 20 talent on our draft board, can't believe he slid to pick [55], great young fella, tough as nails, thrilled to be coming to Richmond.
Recruiting/drafting team were pretty rapt.

Lots of backslapping while they were packing up.
After listening to a few steely Dan tunes , is anyone else keen to hear from his mum , they’re better than I remembered
One of the greatest of all time.

Overall Results….

National Draft 10 selections, 4 delisted. 40% delist rate so far, Nyuon may come under pressure.

Rookie Draft 9 selections 3 delisted. 33% delist rate.

Cat B Rookie 2 selections neither yet delisted.

SSP 2 selections, 1 delisted. 50% delist rate so far.

MSD 2 selections, 1 delisted. 50% delist rate.

Overall 25 selections in 8 seasons. 9 delisted. 3 traded. 36% delist rate, maybe 2-3 players a bit shaky not yet delisted Miller Mansell, Nyuon. Overall though, these players taken by Richmond with throwaway picks look to be avoiding the chop at better than 50% strike rate. Of those who were not delisted already 10 players, Butler, Broad, Graham, Short, Castagna, Lambert, Soldo, Pickett, Baker and Stengle have played in at least one AFL Premiership. Rioli Jnr is shaping as a significant player. Chol is on a decent contract at Suns, and Miller was considered best 22 in our 2022 finals team. I would say at least 11 of these players have already played 100 games or look like doing so.

So to me this says those 4 players we have taken in the 2022 National and Rookie drafts have a roughly 50% chance of having a significant AFL career.

Ron The Bear is back, of sorts.

Looks like we nailed every pick again 2 years running im pretty sure its never been done .

Carlton must have the most botched draft hauls in a a row in history.
What's your criteria? In my book Gibcus & Sonzie are successes. Clarke debut showed he isn't ready. and Banks, Clark & Brown haven't played and may never play. I'm happy with 50% success. Of this year's draft one or two look possibilities a years down the track. Steel E. Green
Going after TT & JH meant it was all about winning the trade period. Tarrant has been good.

I think we have JR's replacement in house. Miller, Balta, Ryan, Bauer, Young.

Dont write off Clarke - the only limiting factor for him is opportunity in the seniors - not ready - kicked 2 goals on debut !

Pale imitation if that.

But we have been strong with our late picks. In 8 years we Richmond has produced around 10 or 11 automatic best 22 selections with these picks, albeit Butler, Stengle, Chol at other clubs. So we seem to generating almost one best 22 player at Richmond per season from these late picks. To give some comparisons, Melbourne has produced no best 22 lock players with late picks since 2014. Geelong probably Menegola, Henry, Z Guthrie, Miers, Atkins, Close, Stengle, O’Connor are running up around our level. Bulldogs like Melbourne have produced none. Collingwood probably Cox, J Daicos, Mihocek, Ginnivan, Noble, possibly Ash Johnson. Depending if you count the likes of Josh Thomas and Tom Phillips but to me they were only ever fringe players. Swans have produced Dawson, Papley, so a couple of stars but not near the quantity Richmond have generated.

Without going through every club I would guess more of the players we select with these late picks are going on to have meaningful careers than any other club.

To me it is a decent bet that two of Kaleb Smith, Steely Green, Seth Campbell and Tylar Young will go on to play over 100 games at AFL level somewhere and lock down best 22 spots for at least a few seasons.

Gibcus and Sonzie in particular, were a great success. Gibcus never getting dropped was interesting. Hope they back it up. But is a 3 game season from skinny ass Clarke and Brown, Clark & Banks isn't "nailing" the draft.. Maybe one of these 4 really step up But its going to be harder to get an AFL games with TT, JH & Dusty hopefully fit and firing.

But Campbell, Smith, Green & Young? My crystal ball has one of them getting some AFL games. In a year or two with retirements. Sampson Ryan too maybe

We seem to really pick for AFL traits in later picks, especially the willing ness to have red hot go. Our early picks seem to be more focused on high end talent, and we pock guys that dropped for a reason. Reckon we can learn from ourselves in the early picks. For trades we are really good in who we get. So a strange situation where our 'better. picks have worse outcomes. ... Although I reckon Gibcus will be a long term A grade star.

Our WA scout(s) deserve plaudits for the players we have taken from there somehow under Freo and Whinge Most Eagles noses with the resources they have.
Several crucial premiership players crucial to our success that were nabbed low on the radar
