4th test Australia v India at the Gabba 1030 AEDT

I didn't realise India took a test playing squad of 33 players to Aust with all this B & C talk....

Australia has roughly 100+ players available at home during a home summer.

With 2 players missing 2 years ago allegedly India’s win didn’t count because smith and Warner were missing.

Imagine you took out smith (Kohli), made wade and head unavailable (Rahul and Vihari), added four test centuries to Nathan Lyon (ravi Ashwin) then removed him, gave Mitchell Swepson (Ravi Jadeja) 200 test wickets and a batting average of 30 and removed him, then got rid of Pattinson (Kumar), Starc (yadav), Cummins (sharma), hazlewood (Bumrah), Neser (Shami).

Do you think despite having 90 players to call on, people might refer to it as Australia’s B team?

We are still probably the only other country that could field a half decent B team.

There's no doubt we really stuffed the final Test, had India in the position of 6/180 and still 180 runs behind and stuffed that position because we carried 2 bowlers for the entire series and then chased quick runs to set target and got bowled out because we saw that the pitch was doing something in session 2 and 3 so we batted more aggressively. If those sessions were playing like 1, we more than likely would have continue to bat into day 5 given the form of our other 2 front line bowlers......

Do you really think that? Batting wise particularly?
Yep.I think we have a few peripheral old and new guys who could step in. Nobody massively beating the door down but good enough to squeeze out an innings or two. Still a larger pool of quality players to choose from than test countries other than India.
Disrupted domestic schedule and overemphasis on hit and giggle cricket is not helping them show their wares in longer format though.

England has more depth than Australia.

Pakistan churns through players like toilet paper. Not saying they’re a gun side but they could probably field a second or third team that would perform nearly as well as their first XI.

Pakistan is a bizarre crapshoot. Their boys club mentality is so bad I wouldn't be surprised if their Best XI is guys who can't even get a First-class game due to hierarchical rubbish.

A million per cent.

While I don’t suggest that their domestic comp is the equal of some others around the world there are some players in it who have sensational numbers but don’t tick the right boxes for whatever reason.

Nice work at equating the missing Indian players in an Aussie squad context.

You could also argue Warner and Sharma both missing tests 1 and 2 negate each other and the fact the scoreline was 1-1 does this too.

I think India may had to take a larger contingent because of the quarantine requirements. So if say Kumar or Ishant were available for tests 3 and 4, they'd normally have the opportunity to fly in should they be needed.

Which makes the feat of the next tier of players stepping up quite admirable.

Meanwhile India probably have about 50 young batting guns running around in their domestic competition

This is all on CA for ****ing over the Sheffield Shield and prioritising money... er BBL

Wait.

This is all the BCCI.

Creating the IPL... they knew what they would unleash upon the world.

Now every other nation is crippled with subpar T20 comps.

India are now free to rule as cricket gods.

Poor captaincy is what mainly lost us the series. Unfortunately the alternatives are, weak as piss Smith, Cheatin Warner, I can't get a game Head or our best bowler.

Poor pitches lost us this series

Any other country in the world bowling a team out on day five would be childs play

But not on Australia's boring pitches

We should have won Sydney and Brisbane but unfortunately they were not test pitches

They were roads

No not at all

The players had nothing to do with it.

We could take XI randos from this forum and put together a side that performs as well as the current PAK team.
