As an avid crows follower and bitter rival, I am totally disgusted by 5AA's descison to shaft the Power listeners .For once it looks like both Crows/Power supporters agree on this agenda.

I agree that 5aa should put the port game on instead of crows, but really its only a trial game and not big enough issue to go to war over. i am a swans supporter so may of listened every now and then but who really cares about these games except to make sure no injuries at end of game.

On the subject however, it isnt right. I will be going to the game on Friday night, and would rather hear about the PA game - that I havent already seen - on the way home, if I dont have a CD on. 5AA are all knobheads anyway, Dittmar, Rowe, Cornes, Ebert, theyre all so full of it. Triple M all the way, or even ABC!

I see that KG still refuses to apologise to Port supporters for the shameful backflip.

At least Cornesy has come out and claimed the station has morally made a bad decision, while all you hear from KG is that it's a commercial decision, and you should feel privileged that you're getting any football coverage at all for the practice games, and how great 5aa are and blah, blah, f***ing blah.

He's a spineless a*** licker with no courage or conviction to admit his station has shafted Port supporters.

Oi!! Now that's taking it a bit too far. ;)

He never will, remember this is KG "I will never support West Adelaide again if the sack (my mate) Neil Kerley as coach" Cunningham. He has no integrity and is one of the biggest hypocrites in the media and will change his opinion to whatever suits him at the drop of a hat.

It's a trial game. Deal with it.

Freo were still in the actual NAB cup, we didn't get an FTA telecast and there wasn't nearly as much screaming as you lot are doing about a meaningless game.

I would guarantee there wouldn't be much of a reaction if they HADN'T of publicly stated on air and also confirmed with the club that they would be covering our away game this weekend.........that said there really isn't much 'screaming' and most of the 'quality' Adelaide/non Port posters are agreeing with us.

Our fans should send emails to the 5AA Programme Director ... but we should also start a Second front with this 5AA Disgrace

the Second front is this:- we should also send Emails to our new number 1 Member "David Koch - Kochie" maybe Kochie can mention it on Sunrise
and maybe this will show 5AA

recently an email has been sent to Kochie telling him how the Power supportes have been screwed by 5AA decision..

i hope every one is sending emails to 5AA complaining of this decision by 5AA

whoops, sorry *Port Board, eek!*

I do think he is a tool though when he calls the games. State the obvious Robert Walls-esque, nowhere near as bad though!! Ebert>daylight>Walls

Completely agree re Russ Ebert.

Loved the man as a footballer (obviously), but listening to him commentate, I can understand his inability to win a flag when he had some awesome players circa 1984.

Actually he didn't have that many awesome players in 1984. Many players retired or left at the end of 1982. That's an important reason why we had such a bad 1983. The most important player missing was Greg Phillips, he was playing for Collingwood. Ebert had some very good kids who were given a go in 1983 and 1984. 13 of 20 who played in the 1981 flag had retired, gone to Victoria or in the case of Tony Giles had a busted knee thanks to the '84 state game that forced him to retire at the end of '84.

If Dwayne Russell had gone for goal rather than that silly chip to Ebert late in the game the story may well have been different.

I987 was a different story, we had a team that had been together for a few years, Phillips and Aba were back from Melbourne and with Leslie we had a state half back line. That side should have made it further than the first semi.

More than anything, injuries cruelled 1983.

1984 was probably the last hurrah for a lot of players.

Didn't help when Bucky retired just before the season began over a pay dispute. He was only 30 and still had several good years ahead of him.

Max James actually pleaded with Russ not to pick him in the '84 Grand Final.

He was effectively retired, happy to captain the reserves all year long.

The day before the GF he was digging trenches, which as everyone knows, is bloody hard work.

And left him knackered.

That night he gets a surprise call from Russ telling him he's in the side!

If Dwayne Russell had gone for goal rather than that silly chip to Ebert late in the game the story may well have been different.

How about if Dwayne Russell hadn't cleaned up half the Norwood defence after Tim Evans had marked in the goalsquare?

Laurie Argent blows his whistle and pays the free kick.

Cost us a certain goal.

If? But? Maybe?

We still lost.

1987 may have been a different story had we not hit the post five times.

FIVE times!!!!!

That last poster by Abba, inside the late minute or two, hurt.

Really hurt.

The decision to play Max was strange at the time and bewildering when he later revealed his personal build up to the game. It showed how conservative Russ was.

Yes those posters hurt us in '87 and Russell's career. The 87 side was a lot stronger than the 84 side however.

I think we did have the "potential" state half back line in 1987 but i think under Ebert it wasn't actually played that way. He experimented with Phillips and Leslie both at CHF, with the other one at CHB, but with not a great deal of success. Then the next year in 88 when Cahill started back at the club, he came up with the great idea of playing Leslie on a back flank, with Phillips at CHB and Abers on the other flank. Unbelievable good half back line, i often wonder if its the best ever in the SANFL.

The final piece of the equation that Jack developed was that he tried Hodges (who was basically an average forward flanker) at Full Forward and he soon became a huge success. D Smith moved out from FF and became our CHF, again another great move.

The 1984 side had Tim Evans (around 120 goals for the year), Russell Ebert, Stephen Clifford, Craig Bradley, Greg Anderson (who between them scored a swag of MM votes), Russell Johnston. Even Steven Knight kicked 50 odd goals for the year off a flank. Finished minor premiers, won their 2nd semi comfortably. That GF had so many ifs buts and maybes - Evans kicked 4.5, Ebert 2.3 from memory, Bradley was caught trying to pull one of his party tricks when he was within range of goals. Poor Dwayne Russell cops a lot of flak for the day, but IIRC he had a pretty big game although he did cost us with some misplaced aggression.

The 1987 side slipped into 3rd spot and was knocked out in straight sets, for the second year in a row. It sorely lacked goal kicking prowess (I think D Smith topped the goalkicking with just over 50) and the midfield hadn't really come together (there were a number of pieces Cahill used though).

I don't know that there's much to be judged between the 1984 and 87 sides. Both had strengths and weaknesses but fell short. But the 1984 side got a lot closer to the big prize. The 1987 side was always behind Glenelg and North, and given their paralysing hold over us while Russell was coach, Norwood too.

Apart from setting up the Cahill structure, and the moves - not only those mentioned above, but Hynes as a ruckman and sitting in the forward pocket offsetting Hodges and D Smith, and the tragic serendipity of Fiacchi's move to a back pocket and S Williams's move into the midfield. Plus Cahill was extremely strong on players' self-belief and the Port Adelaide ethos of tough hard footy. Is it any surprise the number of times he found a spot for Wayne Mahney, shot knees and all? I remember an Escort Cup game in Robe when Cahill came back to Port, and the Stringers and Salisbury had roughed us up a bit - at half time Cahill absolutely went off at the players for not flying the flag and giving back as good as they got with interest. He was in a brick gym, but you could hear him even outside.
