Agree. Cunnington and Carey were hugely homesick and had major family worries early in their careers, but they still trained like pros and hit every KPI.

He’d respond by throwing himself into it. One day he couldn’t make the contest so he punched the defender in the back of the head. Got 3 weeks.

Jason would respond by sulking. Not chasing. Not going at blokes. I can still picture his empty stare as he trots off once the ball was gone. Yeah he snotted Kelly but that was weak.

If it comes out that him and port agreed to this in about round 8 I would not be surprised.

Yeh it's strangely a relief. Like the end of Usual Suspects, all the signs were there all along.

Feel oddly content on this one (subject to the trade itself..). He didn't want to be a North Melbourne person so it's good to have that on the table to be dealt with.

I often think our supporters underrate our own players and their contribution to the club on and off field. Have been vocal about why I'd have wanted to keep Ben Brown, Robbie Tarrant and Shaun Higgins as North Melbourne players through to their retirements.

I think it is better to have a small number of ageing players but for those players to be critical to your work ethic, training standards and to provide leadership on and off the field. When you look at our 27+ year olds, it is Goldy and Cunners that you wouldn't want to be on the bus that went over the cliff, I don't think losing anyone else would be a net negative in terms of leadership.

So was surprised myself when I felt almost no emotion reading the JHF news. Interesting this sentiment has been expressed by a few others too.

My initial feeling wasn't one of disappointment, it was I think we can come out of this pretty well if we manage to not **** up this trade. My second feeling was one of disappointment given we have Rawlings handling trades.

Talented kid but never felt like he bought into our club. His interviews were always underwhelming and despite objections on here, I'd posted that he needed to sign by the end of 2022 to show some kind of investment in the place. Otherwise WTF? He gets to sit back and make us earn his engagement? Great team attitude.

I mean, given what went on, it is understandable. I don't blame him, I barely can put myself through watching us play and I've been one-eyed since the 70s. My only real enjoyment of football in recent times has been watching our women's team play and it is not about the losing, I went to every game I could in the 80s. It is the complete lack of system, leadership and skills. We did a whole lot better with a bunch of potatoes under Laidley. I mean, imaging sucking complete arse and being third last for average tackles. If we just tackled and pressured and only thought about scoring when we accidently scrummed the ball inside 50, we would have been 100x better than we were.

Every #1 pick goes to a club with clear performance issues with a high likelihood of coaching change in their first few years. It's the bottom club FFS. Plus plenty of early selection kids move state to make their mark.

Daicos should have gone number 1 and with the benefit of hindsight it was a mistake not to bid on him. I don't think he would have played any differently had he. Collingwood chronically underperformed under Buckley, but they have good quality older players and they are getting the most out of their younger players. We don't have an easy fix for the lack of good older players.

The disingenuous part was him presenting himself as craving the #1 tag and pressure then turning tail at the first opportunity. This isn't about us. I think this request was coming regardless unless we had magically pushed top 4 this year. That he delayed signing so long was evidence enough of his non-commitment, before Clarkson signed or then hit the period of scrutiny.

I don't think it was disingenuous, I think that he expected it to pan out a lot differently. I think the biggest problem for him is he realised he can't just show up and show a bit of class and that is going to make the difference. I just don't think he is prepared to put his faith into the club to resolve the shit, even when we do something positive, like get Clarkson, it kind of turns into shit, Hawthorn shit but shit nonetheless. When you hear peanuts like Whatley and Damo say Clarkson wont coach again then what is a dumb kid meant to think?

As I said in a different thread, Hawks ****ed us in the arse releasing this bag of shit just before the trade period.

Don't care that we'll probably never see Jason in North colours again. Was never one of us and all I care about now is that we absolutely nail the trade and bring in a king's ransom for him to set up the club for the next decade and beyond.

Build around a core group of players that demonstrate work ethic, consistency, persistence ruthlessness and loyalty to there brand. Hint….the LDU/Cunnington types.

Every additional player we bring on must be compatible with that core group. If not, they don’t belong at NMFC.
