There is no way Joe will sit out next year if a deal can’t be struck. It’s laughable that anyone would even think this.

He has missed 2 years of AFL football, he would not sit out a third year if his body was healthy.

Make the deal, pay overs and you get him. Simple.

A contracted player who says he wants out of your club.

Now, as for "not having to do s**t"....true, you have that option. But it could cost you a years salary and then he could walk in free agency - where the compensation to your club will be less than what we are likely to offer. I'm not sure that is a good outcome for anyone.

The reported figure swans are offering him is a million a year on a long term deal.

The compo for us will be great.

I think most here would prefer he stays anyway, gets fit, plays a decent number of games and comes to his senses by the end of season 2020. Aaron Francis did.

Nope. His groin muscles are pretty much made out of tissue at this point. It also doesn't help that he has such a large kicking action (stresses the hips and groin area).

He might be doing us a favour if we can grab a couple of good picks tbh
Got a source for that champ?

At first blush, it’s shattering, but are we really any worse of if he goes or stays, taking out what we’ll get back. He has done nothing in two years at Essendon, and probably nothing next year either. If we can snag two first rounders, we can either trade in, or bring in some talented kids. Joe leaving makes our side better in 2020. If we trade those picks and get a good player/s we’re better off from round 1, and if we go to the draft and get two solid 200 game players, then longer term we are better off. Joe might have a good 2021-2024, but will be retiring with blown groins when these lads are entering their prime at 24-25 years of age. I don’t know, just not feeling the doom and gloom on this one. Would much rather keep Fantasia.

We traded Tom Mitchell for pick 14 + a swap of 4th rounders.

On what planet do you think we would even conceivably offer more than pick 5 for a player of lesser value and higher risk?

My guess - picks 5 and 40 for Joe and your 2nd rounder.

You were playing Mitchell in the NEAFL cos horse didn’t like him. Now you value him cos he won a brownlow.

Not my intention, just thought I would ask the question.
I'll see myself out.

It could have been to hide the fact that he was also up there to have a medical with Sydney. Maybe his manager fed McClure.

True or false...JD informed EFC that he was considering his options. EFC said sure, have some space, think about it...then ratted on him for meeting with Tom Harley in the hope of pressuring him to stay, but the treachery had the opposite effect.

False.

He was in Sydney seeing his surgeon (whom he indeed saw the next day - it was a genuine trip).

Essendon didn’t know about the Harley meeting until after it happened.

He had surgery in Sydney and was up there multiple times after. Who knows how many times he met with the Swans.

He didn’t inform Essendon of wanting a move until this week.

Could be.
I reckon it's true.

It’s not.

But you don’t have to believe me, I’m just a bloke on the internet.

JD was asked by the club about the meeting and said he was just catching up with a friend. Which who knows, maybe he was.

But I’d say there’s little doubt they discussed footy and life, none of which JD is too satisfied with right now.

At some point Harley (and others) have sold him the idea of living in Sydney and it sounds pretty good to him at the moment.
