If that is what he is worth then I'm sure it was reflected in the extension that essendon offered him.
You think it wouldnt have been?

I honestly don't know, but if you guys offered him an extension with that figure but he would be prepared to accept it with us instead, then there are other issues than just money in play. Personally, I don't think the figure would be that high because his value would not have increased by 25% just by being injured for 2 years. You think it wouldnt have been?

You think we'll finish 15th next year?So comes back to the question then of how the Swans extract him from his contract and make the move. Again why would we trade him with one first rounder when we can get that as compo? You can throw in pick 25 or 30+, whatever it is but it would probably not be worth as much as keeping him for a year and hoping he changes his mind.
He's on 900K. To get a player out of a club it's either a longer length of contract and a hefty pay rise or both, usually both. Sydney would be around the 1.1 or 1.2 mark. Easy. Not sure about the reports of $1m per year. This is trade period so most of the "reporting" is only opinion. The figure probably comes from one person who said he may be worth that and then it gains a life of its own.
I wouldn't expect that the last 2 seasons have increased his value all that much.
You think we'll finish 15th next year?
The big unknown is whether or not he is even able to play next season because he virtually hasn't for the last 2. Either way the swans choose to play this, it is a gamble. If they let him go this time around and he can't get on the park next year, then they will pick him up for less (and essendon gets a worse compo pick), but if he stars next year then the reverse would happen and he may also fall back in love with the lifestyle. So comes back to the question then of how the Swans extract him from his contract and make the move. Aren’t there rules about talking to a contracted player?
What Harley did is probably common across the industry but the first time I have seen an AFL CEO so blatantly lie about it to media.
He is not a huge loss imo try and get the best deal out of Sydney, He still put he's hand up to play & he wanted to play that Anzac game.
He can't blame Essendon's medical team no club forces players to play if they not right.
He is not a reliable player poor set shot.
You know this not a question, as Swans are chasing a contracted player, to come across for season 2020.The big unknown is whether or not he is even able to play next season because he virtually hasn't for the last 2.
There's a difference in quality between pick 5 and pick 10.Is next year’s pick 10 any better or worse than this year’s pick 5? Isn’t next year regarded as stronger depth?
That may be so, but if we are forced to pay something that makes us "uncomfortable" then I guess you guys can pay him for another 12 months then. You know this not a question, as Swans are chasing a contracted player, to come across for season 2020.
Though the player and the second club have the desire, the EFC hold all the cards in this poker game. The Swans can come and bluff all they wish, but they have to commit a whole lot more than they are comfortable with to see the result.
That's the thing - you want him in 2020. You'll pay. That may be so, but if we are forced to pay something that makes us "uncomfortable" then I guess you guys can pay him for another 12 months then.
We are probably both going to be disappointed. That's the thing - you want him in 2020. You'll pay.
Too much risk, with all the work you've put into him to leave him in another club's environment for another 12 month.
Too much risk.
I'm not sure we do want or need him in 2020, we're not contending and have plenty of KPF, I reckon the timing is of Joe's making so we're responding. Our board is involved in approving what happens here not just the footy department and boards are risk averse so I doubt we'll be screwed either at the trade table of in salary cap. Taken us too long to get our cap under control to lose it again doing a rash deal for a long term injured player. That's the thing - you want him in 2020. You'll pay.

I'm certain that the Swans want him. What I'm not sure on is how you can be 'not sure'.I'm not sure we do want or need him in 2020, we're not contending and have plenty of KPF, I reckon the timing is of Joe's making so we're responding.

We'll do the deal if all things are sensible.
Oh. Ok then. The deal gets done. It's as simple as that
Weirdly i've realised i care more about the essendon family lines than i do about the club. If he needs Sydney for his mental health then i'm all for it. But it does mean i care a whole lot less about this footy club from here on. Quite a contradiction i know. I guess i'm here for the era's and the nostalgia. Loved watching the end of Fletchers career because he was the same age as me and was showing the world what a forty year old could do. Loved watching another Watson climb to the top.
If Fletchers son gets drafted then between him and Walla i might keep watching but not really sure right now.
So, you're assuming that leaving him for another year will nab him for less?We are probably both going to be disappointed.
