There no way the Swans would have told Joe they would offer Essendon a single first rounder as the trade.

The conversation would have been 2 first rounders. its a fair deal and Essendon will take it - Joe agrees and here we are.

He's not in any or worse shape than when the Swans courted him so that's what they are still obliged to do.

They may try and get something in return or play a bit if chess but for all sorts of reasons the Swans need to front up and get this deal done.

I'm not sure we do want or need him in 2020, we're not contending and have plenty of KPF, I reckon the timing is of Joe's making so we're responding. Our board is involved in approving what happens here not just the footy department and boards are risk averse so I doubt we'll be screwed either at the trade table of in salary cap. Taken us too long to get our cap under control to lose it again doing a rash deal for a long term injured player.

We'll do the deal if all things are sensible.
I think you might find Essendon's board may be just as adverse to accepting unders. They too can veto a trade.

Weirdly i've realised i care more about the essendon family lines than i do about the club. If he needs Sydney for his mental health then i'm all for it. But it does mean i care a whole lot less about this footy club from here on. Quite a contradiction i know. I guess i'm here for the era's and the nostalgia. Loved watching the end of Fletchers career because he was the same age as me and was showing the world what a forty year old could do. Loved watching another Watson climb to the top.
If Fletchers son gets drafted then between him and Walla i might keep watching but not really sure right now.
lol seeya

False.
The meeting was as explained by both JD and TH.
He only decided to leave when EFC threw him under a bus for a nothing meeting, a meeting which EFC knew was nothing.

do you believe everything you hear people say?

Good luck to Joe I hope he has an injury free future irrepective of where he plays.

The past couple of years the guy was unable to stay on the park, let alone produce his best.

A change of club, and envionment may be beneficial in the short term but he still needs to
reach peak fitness and kick goals.

Essendon will not suffer greatly should he leave, he has hardly played in 2 seasons, and we can rebuild
without him if we select the quality picks we need.

He's on 900K. To get a player out of a club it's either a longer length of contract and a hefty pay rise or both, usually both. Sydney would be around the 1.1 or 1.2 mark. Easy.
Let him go Essendon we need the room for Jeremy Cameron.

JD aint on 900k at essendon......

Thereabouts

He’s reported to be on 2mil over 3 years...

Substantially lower then 900k a year.

I’d be absolutely gob smacked if we signed joe to 900k a season after 1 good season.

This whole ‘Joe’s only had the one good season’ thing I keep reading...

Obviously 2017 was the best but how does 2016 get forgotten so easily? Two goals a game in a side that was awful was definitely deserving of being considered a good season.

People only want to see what they want to see. That's why.

Even this year (1.8) you would consider he showed he can play at the level.

I do know what you mean. I feel similarly. The last 12 years have taken their toll - I can handle a crappy side losing valiantly but not a constantly inconsistent club with an apathetic culture. My favourite year in this period was 2016 when the fill-ins tried their hearts out every week.

I don’t feel a connection to the current club; their values don’t represent my own. They accept mediocrity from some players and the 90s Essendon under Sheedy would never have done the same thing.

It was 900k or there abouts, I done some digging on past articles all suggesting that.
Posted them in the trade thread awhile back if care to look.

Translation: I only support the club when they’re winning.

Daniher still has a full season to go on the $2.7 million three-year-contract he signed in 2017, taking him through to the end of the 2020 season.

Daniher kicked 65 goals back in 2017, the same year he signed a three-year contract extension with Essendon, reportedly around $900,000 a season.

Fairfax Media understands that the Bombers and Daniher's management have all but agreed to terms on a deal worth well over $2 million.

BJ goes bang (sort of)

Goddard took aim at Joe and his preparedness to commit to his rehabilitation to his ongoing groin issues that have limited him to just 11 games over the past two years.

“In this case it does feel like he owes the club,” Goddard told RSN.

“As much as the injuries affected him, he could’ve gone about it in a better way with his rehab, particularly the first time around.

“At the time I didn’t think he dedicated himself hard enough to recovering and rehab and giving himself the best chance to get up and play and get himself right.

“That’s why it’s a bit disappointing.”

There you go. So I’d say Swans sign him min $1m. Wonder if Joe’s contract was front ended like Raz?
