Thanks for the memories Lachie. You gave your all for the club. Countless times you put your body and head on the line with your elite intercept marking skills. Glad you got to experience that final against Richmond at the G. Shame you couldn't taste the ultimate success.

Good luck for your future wherever it takes you.

I remember how hard he used to work as a forward. He had such a massive work rate.

Then he turned defender and for a period of two or so years he was, IMO, our most influential player. When the concussions really started to take a toll we needed Scotty Thompson to start playing that intercept role and he could never really match Lachy in that department (few could).

A great career with plenty of highlights, and we'll always have his Reddit AMA to remember him by.

Mixture of emotions about Lachie. Was serviceable, did many good things, put his body on the line for the cause. But that laconic style always frustrated me. Never had a sense of urgency, was slow with his decision making & skill execution. You'd hope for more out of a #3 draft pick, but better him than Gumbleton.

Thanks for your service Lachie.

Never really lived up to his potential. Should have made a far greater impact with a body like that.Lucky to have survived this long. A bit of a disappointment.

peeps say that but i really think he is a guy who suffered from 2 things 1/ not having a coach who could bring out the best in him and 2/ a couple of star players around him (so if he had been at the Cats for example he'd have 3 premierships under his belt and be seen as a vital cog) oh well, still plenty of grass around :)

ok 3 things, injury but the above 2 were more important

I have heard a very strong rumor that the great man will be lining up alongside Dan Harris, the Ross brothers and Gav Urquart at Pascoe Vale this season.

Not a strong rumour. Application was lodged with the EDFL on 31 Jan. It's on their website

Pascoe Vale secures former North Melbourne AFL player Lachie Hansen for 2018 EDFL season
Luke D’Anello, Moreland Leader
February 1, 2018 2:42pm
PASCOE Vale has added a fourth former North Melbourne player to its stocks, with Lachie Hansen set to partner Matthew Watson in a potent one-two punch in the coming Essendon District Football League season.

The 29-year-old was delisted by the Kangaroos last year after an 11-year career at the top level and Panthers coach Adam Contessa said the 151-gamer would start the season in the attacking half after spending most of his time in the AFL in defence.

Ex-North trio Ben Ross, Gavin Urquhart and Daniel Harris were “a big factor” in Hansen’s decision to put pen to paper with Pascoe Vale, which is looking to rebound from a disappointing 2017 Premier Division campaign after finishing in sixth spot.

“It’s a huge get for us,” Contessa said.

“Obviously an area we needed to build was key position, particularly up forward, and that’s where Lachie wants to play.

“Just his experience and what he will bring to the group will be huge.

“Coming back to local footy, he wants to play forward, and that’s the perfect fit for us.”

Former Carlton-listed player Watson signed with his former junior club in November after five years in the AFL system and two seasons with WAFL outfit East Fremantle.

Patrick Veszpremi, 28, is also making a return to Raeburn Reserve from Essendon Doutta Stars, while Jarryd Graham (Castlemaine), Shayne Allan (Noble Park), Sam Caruso (East Burwood), and Ash Wiggins (Orbost Snowy Rivers) are other signings of note.

Eamonn Ogden has also arrived at Pascoe Vale after making 13 appearances for Keilor and playing one match for Essendon’s VFL team last year. The 22-year-old was a member of the Blues’ 2016 premiership side.

“That was a real bonus,” Contessa said of the acquisition of Ogden.

“He approached us and came down and trained with us before Christmas. His explosive pace, his ability to break lines and run and carry is going to be huge, particularly for guys like Lachie and Maty Watson up forward.

“If he can get the ball in quick to them, it adds a different dynamic to our team.”

Anthony Lewis (fractured neck) has retired and is the only significant loss for the Panthers.

Contessa said expectations were high for his team after it claimed eight wins and missed a finals berth last season.

“We were obviously disappointed with last year’s result,” he said.

“We felt that we had a better list than sixth. Those close games, you can’t turn them around and change them now, but hopefully the group has learnt from that.

“It was a kick up the butt, I suppose, after playing in a couple of finals campaigns, but the boys have come back pretty hungry, which is exactly what we want.”

Two things to note.

Firstly - I thought Urqhart was in the NFL?

Secondly - seriously imagine playing district level and running into a Lachlan Hansen? The guy is a lot bigger and more solid than it appears on an AFL field in the flesh and has a big tank.

You'd be trying to outmark or spoil a brick-wall while puffing your guts out.

He's good enough to be playing for one of the Queensland AFL clubs this year IMO.

He went back to his original club and played for peanuts.

You could take Lachy Hansen out of the Nar Nar Goon footy club, but you could never really take the Nar Nar Goon footy club out of Lachy Hansen.

It always seemed to be a matter of when, not if, the former number three draft pick would return to the Goon for the end of his career – back where it all began.

And that time is now.

The Goon has announced that their 197-centimetre favourite son will be back in their famous colours for the 2019 West Gippsland Football Netball Competition season – and they can hardly wait.

The senior side finished the 2018 home and away season in a four-way tie for the ladder lead, and Hansen’s inclusion will massively boost its chances for September glory moving forward.

Of course, Dean Blake’s side will have to find a way past the likes of reigning premier Phillip Island – which, off the back of a devastating grand final performance, has just signed former Melbourne utility Cam Pedersen in a stunning move.

But the Goon faithful is just over-the-moon to have the 30-year-old Hansen back in the fold.

He’s returning to the local area with his wife Prue (nee Prue Evans) and kids after a playing stint at Pascoe Vale.

Nar Nar Goon president Dene Missen is understandably thrilled to have Hansen – who played 151 games for North Melbourne as both a forward, and an intercept marking defender – back at the club.

“He was always coming back – it was just when,” Missen revealed.

“They (Lachy and Prue) have just had another child and they wanted to get home and be closer to their family.

“He always said he wanted to finish his career at the Goon, and we’re rapt he is.”

Missen said Hansen had knocked back some big offers from other clubs in Gippsland to head back to the Savs as a one-point player.

“He wants to just come back and enjoy his footy where he started,” Missen said, adding that all of the club’s recruits from last year are returning, in addition to another favourite son – Mat ‘Skipper’ Slattery, a premiership-winning star at both Spencer Street and most recently Newborough.

“This is going to create some incredible excitement around our club.

“We’ve got our loyal people who’re always at the club, and hopefully this will create a lot of new and rekindled interest too.

“It’s just an awesome story that he’s coming back.”

Hansen’s signing continues a wave of positive momentum for the Goon, which has also signed highly-respected former Cranbourne and Tooradin-Dalmore player Chris Keenan as reserves coach for 2019.
