Enjoyed watching Hansen show a little more aggression this go-round. I think if we're going to have three tall forwards we need one of them to be half decent at contested marking. Dish is great when he has a run up or the perfect sit, Taz hasn't shown it yet... can Hansen? Maybe he puts on some more bulk again before kick off 2013 and we'll see some defenders looking shocked when this grinning goof has left them with a hemorrhaging poo-poo.

Honestly tho, if his run-ups for shots on goal don't progress to Kennedy style mummery next year, I'll be happy.

i would say lachie is the epitome of an enigma, has really divided supporters opinions for various reasons, such a big gap between his best and worst, and such undoubted latent talent, admittedly it has been a long time coming and there have been many frustrations along the way but this year gave us a glimpse of what he can offer,if he can get some continuity to his training and continues to improve his game and fitness, will become a very important key position player for us,has very good hands, and is a nice one grab mark, his goal kicking improved a lot this year, but that was coming from a very ordinary base, still needs to work on his set shot routine a bit,and IMO needs to learn the art of bodywork in a contest, very hard to mark his year but i would say 6/10

I can't give him a rating in 2012.

No other player, aside from Cunnington, excites me with their potential like Lachie.

It's just bubbling under the surface.

I've backed him every year since he's been drafted.

The expectations were huge when we first got him, then dropped dramatically, and are rising each year from now on imo.

He's no longer a kid, he will probably clock up 100 games in 2013, he's had 6 seasons, his 7th pre-season.

Consistency is his major issue, and its something alot of players never master. It's a completely mental application, an aptitude that most of us have suspected he's been lacking for quite a while.

I've now given into the notion that he will probably be no more than a good/servicable player, a player that has game breaking capabilities, and demonstrates them a couple of times a season.

Thats fine for most, but I was convinced the kid I saw play for Gippsland was going to be an asbolute star of the game, and one of the better CHB's of the decade, a kid with rare hands, a rare motor, and an ability to dominate a CHF, not the other way around.

Really frustrating, and probably why the emphasis on mental testing in the draft combine and leading up to the draft has increased 10 times, even since Lachie was drafted.

I've still not given up hope of him reaching his potential, but regardless of how well he plays in the next few years, I'm still resigned to the fact of being dissapointed, which is probably more my own fault of high expectations, than his.

Think he had an ok year after the start he had.
He probably thought he was gone after about round 9, when for a variety of things kept him out.
When he get his chance he grabbed it with both hands by showing a lot more desperation and heart than he has previously.
His goal kicking and fwd pressure was pretty good.

The things he needs to work on are are his marking and decision making.

6/10 would of been higher if he played all season.

Let's look at the flip side of this coin. Do you believe the club has handled his development in an optimal fashion?

He has had limitations beneath his knees, which have slowed his ascent as an all round player, but I think the club have played a role in this by being a little too obsessed with his endurance, and this has detracted from his marking prowess as he has been utilised in the workhorse role behind Petrie.

I realise that Lachies metabolism has not be helpful in this aim, but we really need to be packing calories in to his diet and muscle on his frame as Petrie enters his twilight phase. The added muscle would also make him a stronger player at ground level.

.

Certainly not.

The whole Tassie situation was an absolute ****ing disgrace imo, and alot of people at the club probably got away far too clean from it for my own liking.

There's no single more important thing than player development for the club, and to just about screw up the first 18 months of our second highest draft pick, and a KPP to boot is absolutely shithouse...

I'm of the firm belief, that had he been drafted tomorrow, he would probably be ahead in his development, at the same stage of his career.

I also think though, alot of Lachie's problems aren't necessarily the result of bad development.

The affiliate team in Tassie was just the first of the excuses put up to as why Lachie wasn't performing as anticipated after being drafted so high. The fact is his improvement from one year to the next has been minimal. He did however show in a couple of games this though that he may be capable of becoming a dominant player on the ground, both physically and mentally ( Collingwood game ). I have my fingers crossed that he takes some INITIATIVE this off season and does things without being asked. I hope right now he is doing regular jogging, weights and eating up big. I hope he has eager training buddies that push Lachie. An endurance athlete he runs with and a tank he does weights with.

I've been hoping this for the past 2 seasons. How many shall we wait? 7 seasons?

If we think this season was his ceiling we should seek a trade for him and look to pick up someone decent. If we think we can and will improve, he should stay. But will he ever reach his potential? I'm not sure, but kudos to him for giving this season a good shake.

I, like Pykie, see the potential there for Hansen to be one of the best key position players in the game. He has all the football attributes required. Scott clearly identified that most of Lachie's issues were mental and I think it's pretty obvious that he was told at the start of the year that he'd be playing in the VFL until he showed the mongrel/aggression that you need to be a successful KPP at the highest level.

My favorite moments of Lachie's second half of the season were not the goals he kicked (with that ridiculous run up!) but in finally see him run 30m to a kick he had next to no chance of marking, just to crash the pack and make an impact. This is what Petrie does very well, if anyone drops into the 'hole' in front of him, he will take the first chance to cannon into them in a marking contest and remind them that they are standing in his space. Drew is one of the nicest guys off the field, but this little bit of arseh*le on the field makes him a dangerous key forward. With Drew clearly taking a bit of a mentoring role with Hansen & Tarrant this year, I still maintain hope that Lachie can continue to build on the steps he took this year, put a few more kegs on and become a very dangerous second forward.

He's just turned 24. I know it feels like he's been around forever but most KPP peak around 26-27. However, it is hard to continue to have patience with Lachie when you see a 20yo playing the same position for WC and tearing finals apart. Lucky bastards

6/10 for the big guy... coming along nicely now.... another 5kg over the preseason and look out... kicking was much better and you can see he is trying stuff.... different run up... different ball drop..... missed a fair bit of the season due to a number of things.... next year im expecting 40-50 goals if he plays forward.... i have a feeling we might see him in defence every now and then....

Loved the increase in intensity from Loughie this year. The number of facial expressions increased ten fold which left me wanting more.

I think it has been self belief more than anything that has held him back. Not sure if their came a point of realisation that he could be a decent player but it looked as if this year the penny dropped. Hopefully he can have an injury free preseason and get stuck into the gym. A few more kg's and a similar attitude to this season and he could be a better performer again in 2013.

Yeah, interesting season. Showed more intensity and desire which was great, kicking has improved, and generally seems a more rounded player. Was important in numerous games we won which shows his value when he puts it together.

On the flip side, he hasn't come on as much as hoped and he is still not strong enough. Further, his marking is not what it used to be.....not sure why, he used to have reliable and strong hands when first drafted.

Overall 6/10.

6 Years and 79 games and you're still excited by his potential?

I remember back in the day when some so called football experts on this forum believed Lachie to be a potential All Australian Centre Half Back. They had a little cry when I suggested the idea was a nonsense.

Lachie will only ever be a solid footballer. He will have the odd game where he may be considered in our bests but he will never tear the competition apart.

I'm not sure what is exciting about that.

But having said all that let me bring you to this.

I'm really happy that mainly, he showed more aggression.
I agree. But shit, when some people on here were calling Lachie "Laconic" we had the Goody Two Shoes brigade have a little cry over the truth. When Zondors was telling yahs that Lachie had to "Work on Shit" you just didn't want to listen. "Oh he is a Potential AA CHB", "Don't be so nasty Zondors because you may hurt Lachie's feelings". Yah know what? I don't give a shit. I care for the NMFC. I want what is best for the NMFC. Anyways some of you Turkeys simply sicken me. Well actually you make me laugh with your blind faith but you get my gist. :stern look

That's the problem. You never will. You are a pure 100% unadulterated "after the facts" man. You do not possess the capability to identify potential.
I rate Atley and Harper highly. They excite me. Actually I've stated this previously.

But you choose to ignore that because it doesn't suit your argument.

Anyways back onto the facts. I like facts and what they tell us. 6 years and 79 games. I'm Ken Bruce Excited. Yeah. Lachie the best Forward ever. A better contested mark than Jack Riewoldt. Rose Coloured Glasses are Great. I love Utopia. Let me jump on my Unicorn and prance over the Rainbow.

Now this aint a knock on Lachie, it is a knock on your blind faith. Lachie is what he is. A player capable of giving us solid service. Not a potential great. And I'm stating that pre his career is over. I've been making that call for a fair while now. Ask your old mate Zebs. I suggested he would become a Jason McCartney type. That in my eyes is what he is. After the Facts My Hairy Arse. :stern look
