or maybe just coz he is one of the best...u make it sound ridiculous that someone would think ablett is the best
I think it's ridiculous that every Geelong fan cannot simply consider any other player to be even close to the supposed 'son of God.'

Judd alone has been on par with Ablett this season, if not better. I'd mention more if not for the sake of being bias.

im not saying riewoldts not a gun , he is , would take him anyday at geelong.his record in finals means he cant the best player in the comp.

ablett was voted the best player in the comp because he has no fault at all.
I can see where you are coming from with the other points but these two don't make sense. Why is Riewoldt judged so poorly in finals? He has bad and good games like most players.
Ablett has flaws, every player has flaws. Ablett handballs too much and runs laterally too often. They are very minor flaws but it would be nice to see him kick it more often and try and break the lines most times. He has the speed, core strength and evasiveness to do it.

he doesnt get the time and space to kick like for example montagna...u see constantly ablett would get the ball in traffic he would duck and weave like no other player can but then since geelongs midfield is so good there is always a player working into space for him and gets the handball out

everytime ablett gets the ball opposition players come straight to him and credit to ablett he gets the handball out..so i dont think the number of handballs ablett does can be any fault coz if u watch him play thats all he can do

spot on , if a handball is the best option its the best option. I very rarley if ever see ablett give of a hadball that dosent put the receiver in a good position.

being pretty good on the weekend and close to AA form early in the season does not mean you are capable of producing a level of football that gives you the title of best player in the comp.

perhaps you have a point about brown in finals, point still stands that riewoldt has been very poor overall in finals games. he only imposed himself once against the side that finished 8th on the ladder.

hall was a gun, champion power forward.

ablett was voted the best player in the comp because he has no fault at all.

He has performed in other finals as well. In 2004 he was St Kilda's best player for the entire finals series. Against Port in the prelim he had 12 marks, 18 possessions and kicked 3 goals. If thats not performing i don't know what is. Against Sydney in the semi he had another 12 marks and 21 possessions as well. And was our only shining light when we were flogged by the Lions in the qualifying final when he kicked 3 goals.

Riewoldt is number 1. Ablett is number 2. Not much between them but I'm not going to be swayed by a survey. Why do they even do the survey during the season? They should do it after the finals.

56.8 say abletts the best, 4.6 say riewoldt the best. I would say you most likely havent seen enough of ablett play.

I voted for him, clearly the best when the survey was taken, not as good as his old man though and did take a while for him to get going.

I have noticed as have a few others on here, that over this season he is playing behind the ball a lot more getting the easy touch and he handballs way to much nearly 2:1 ratio , its getting to Diesel Williams stats.

For him to be rated alongside the likes of Judd,he needs to get the hardball more often, ATM Selwood is more damaging than the son of god, and in my opinion has surpassed him over the last few weeks

but I will have him in my side before any of my players

before he got injuired in rnd 6 he had won more contested footy than any other player in the comp.

I think he gets enough of the hardball, it's just he runs backwards or sideways too often when he gets it.

no problem with running the ball backwards our sideways if its the best option. You have to take into consideration the tactics sides use against ablett and geelong. As soon as ablett gets the ball a bunch of players charge at him in a attempt to corral the champ, by running backwards our sideways he is able to draw more players to him which means other players are able to find space on their own.

sides also play alot more defensive than usual against geelong, they push and keep alot of numbers back so often the best thing to do is to hold on to the footy until an option presents or geelong players can get up forward and provide a contest.

the problem is that in the last few years ablett hasnt had alot of chances to win a game off his own boot, well not as many as riewoldt or brown.however if you go back to the 07 prelim when the game was on the line in the last quarter it was ablett who stept up and got the cats over the line.

riewoldt can simply not be considerd the best player in the comp with his current finals record.

I'm not sure if you are idnorant or just not old enough to remember 2004, but Riewoldt was the Saints best in our 3 finals, againts Brisbane in a badly beaten side he kicked 4 goals and outplayed his oppenant, the only Saint to do so on the night, Against the Swans he was outstanding taking 12 marks on a wet night and setting up many goals. And against the Power he kicked 3 and was the Saints best player in a close loss.

He was good against Adelaide in 2005 in fact the reason Adelaide lost the game was they flooded back to curb Riewoldt after 2 quick goals in the 2nd quarter. Against the Swans he was beaten by Bolten in the Prelim probably his only truely bad game.

In 2006 he was in our top 3 players against Melbourne.
Last year Riewoldt destroyed Collingwood and was ok against Hawthorn in a badly beaten side. He only had a bad game against Geelong because of bad service, wet weather and the fact that Geelong flooded numbers back to help their hopless CHB.

Riewoldt's finals record is not as good as Ablett's but I ask you cats fans, has Riewoldt ever had as good a team as Ablett has had with the Cats, the answer is no and it is much easier to play a big game in the midfield than as a big marking Forward in finals, and that is fact.

Riewoldt has been brilliant since the middle of 2007 easily the best player in that stretch, he was also the best player in the comp in 04. Ablett is great but he is playing in the best midfield ever. Riewoldt carries his forward line, he is the only elite star in that forward line, the focus on him week to week is so intense yet no one can stop him. The cats fans ignorance about other clubs staggers me, I will enjoy your loss to us this year in the GF.

Are you kidding me? Go watch the Hawthorn match again.

This is exactly what I was saying with the Geelong bias. It's insane, I swear. You's act like his never made a mistake in his career.

Ablett is second in the league for hardball gets and 4th for contested possessions, despite having missed 3 games this year. He's ahead of Judd (and the rest) on average.
