Because Melb are treating Watts with kid gloves, its means "All clubs should be putting cotton wool on kids".

The geelong game was a rest as will be another a few weeks after the break.

Not playing to not get hurt! Thanks Garry

no break deserved. I saw him play a fair bit and in an age where the term is thrown around willy nilly, I would still classify G Lyon as a genuine star.

I saw Lyon's entire career and he was a rung down from being a star. He was a beautiful mover for his size and had exquisite skills and balance, but he was a poor mark. He was fine on the lead, but poor overhead in contests. If he could have marked he may have gone to the next level.

Still, he was very good.

There is a lot of talk about JZ having sore groins, which Lyon fears could turn into OP if not managed/rested properly. Was imploring JB that if he does in fact have OP to rest his "future club captain" for the remainder of the year.

Said if there was any chance of OP that the decision "had to go to the top" (meaning JB I assume), and he had to overrule the coaching staff and medical experts and the player himself as they had a vested and biased interest in him playing with injury. Was basically saying do not take any risks with this guy, especially considering his leadership credentials, his fearless and instinctive attack on the ball (doesnt know when to let up), and our current ladder position and form.

He was a little melodramatic but I fear that he has inside word from JB about the possibility of JZ having sore groins. I reckon there is some truth in it.

Unfortunately for Lyon the thing that brought JZ off the field was a corky and cramps in both legs. I think he just overreacted by jumping to conclusions that it was the groins. But I reckon where ther is smoke there is fire, especially when his colleague for most of his media committments is the President of the NMFC. I cant recall if JB refuted the OP talk or not, but I assume if i heard it I would have remembered it so think JB didnt refute it.

Well said. From a Melbourne fan and all.

I think there is something to it JZ has not participated in the main training sessions in the last 2 weeks since he was out with a hip problem for the geelong game . He was with the rehab group and he had a fitness test to play against brisbane as he didnt do the main session wednesday. Something wrong there somewhere.

Any chance we can keep this thread about our future superstar, rather than that arseclown Garry Lyon? Bloody hell...

Sorry but it's early morning here in the UK after nightshift and I haven't heard the word arseclown for yonks....qaulity work made me laugh!

Incredibly prophetic. We lost Harvey, Wells and Campbell, and we look incredibly slow. Not only do we need good quick midfielders, but we need ones that have mastered the drop punt (and preferably one that can teach it to the other blokes.)
The moment that happens our forwards don't have to compete for up and unders with defenders that are going to monster them.
Even today when he wasn't having his best day, Ziebell just looks a touch of class above any other Roos midfielder that we had on the park.

Regarding the comments re midfield/pace importance now - you certainly need to respect this but I think the trait of the important sides and I'm sure someone will prove this - is to throw down your own agenda and force others to comply.

Ie - just when everyone is playing catchup to the reigning tough premiers, a new fast contender will emerge. Just as everyone catches up to them, a new tall contender will emerge who will eventually fall to the next generation of well drilled tactical sides who will eventually fall to the brutality of the next lot of tough sides.

To shorten it all - I'd love to see a coach come to NMFC who sets out their own philosophy and sticks to it. Pagan went with the long kick, Clarkson wanted disposal at all costs etc.

Exactly, we're not going to beat Geelong anytime soon by trying to emulate their game style. The way we'll win a premiership or have any success in the near future is to develop a NEW game style suited around the list we have/will develop, draft players who fit that game style, and hope that it works. New gamestyle and Dean Laidley are mutually exclusive,

North sweats on Ziebell scans

By Ben Broad
11:29 AM Mon 15 June, 2009

NORTH MELBOURNE is yet to confirm whether young gun Jack Ziebell has in fact broken the leg he injured during his side’s 44-point loss to Adelaide on Sunday.

The Kangaroos are bracing themselves for bad news, however, after the courageous midfielder was taken by ambulance from AAMI Stadium to hospital.

Scans have been taken of the 18-year-old’s right leg, with North Melbourne to learn the full extent of the damage later today.

Adam Simpson’s 300th senior match was a miserable evening for the Kangas, with small forward Lindsay Thomas also injuring his hamstring in the clash.
