difference is that wells injury was very minor, it would not surprise me at all if he plays in 2 weeks time against freo

For a minor calf he didn't look too good coming off the ground. If it is just 1 or 2 weeks i would give him the rest of the H&A off and freshen him up for finals. We have Ziebell and Thomas back and Garlett has been playing well. Got Greenwood and the Mullett pushing for some game time as well.

Great news considering! The commentators on Fox Footy almost gave me a heart attack as they dramatically made mention of Wellsy's injury and stating his night would be over as the camera was following general play. I had prepared myself for a compound fracture of the tibia when they panned back to Wells.

didn't look too bad to me, the medical staff say one week and they have been spot on all year, no reason to doubt them now

I am not doubting anyone. I think calf injuries do not take too long to be able to run okay with but to regain the full extent of the spring and the power I think takes a lot longer until it has healed properly and for someone like Wells I think he has struggled when he has lacked the ability to accelerate or be able to use his agility.

I am hopeful he can be 100% as quick as they say but calves can be one of the more problematic injuries and really tough for medical staff to diagnose and treat. I have full confidence in Steve and the team, if anyone will get him back quickly then they will.

They reckon Wells 1 week with a calf, which sounds a bit optimistic for me but never know. Grima up to 2. They don't sound too bad but I wouldn't be rushing anyone back to play GWS.

Neither would I, but you'd definitely want them to have a run before finals. Don't want people not match fit for the biggest match of the year

Our biggest match of the year will be the Grand Final :D

I don't think you lose match fitness over a period of 2-3 weeks.

Did my calf at start of year and it took 4 weeks to walk normal.

Wells wont be back until the first week of the finals.

But then again, my fitness is not anywhere near Wellsy's.

Are there degrees to the level of damage to a calf? With Wells it sort of looked like a bump to it initially rather than a strain.

Yes there is...I couldnt walk with mine...had to crawl off Bondi Beach...I thought I was going to make it onto:

Bruising all down the inner ankle a week later...like dark purple colour.

Wouldnt wish it on anyone.

Hence back week 1 of Finals.

The way he signaled to the bench when he first did it, it looks much more serious than a one weeker.

If only signals to the bench could finally be given the scientific credibility they deserve over MRI scans, Xrays and other forms of stringent examination. Think how much money we would save on medical bills.

Good on ya :thumbsu:

He told them before he got off the ground he was out for the game. Calf injuries aren't easy to recover from.

Exactly. The signal to the bench merely suggested he felt something twinge. But no way does it say anything about the actual damage to the muscle.

Nope no need to risk him... I read someone that Scott mentioned, now it was highly likely that we have made the 8 we can take a less risk with Wells and Grima. Therefore Wells won't be risked this week
