Love the Fogarty story. Loved his selfless play in the 18 Championships pre draft. Had a host of highly rated team mates, but he caught the eye playing both a link role mid/forward and “mopping up” for his more offensive minded team mates.
Wasn’t impressed he ended up at the cattery. Life down the coast was tough, played plenty on occasion, but was plagued by a string of niggling injuries, much like his early years with us.

Was a complete bargain when we traded him in, but not on face value as he continued with the niggling injuries, sidelining him all to regularly. Suspect most of his niggles emanated from his back ailment which was diagnosed 2022. He and the club eventually but the bullet just as his career looked unlikely to continue beyond his contract. Back surgery has clearly played a huge part in his renaissance.

Rather than continue to push for a career as an under sized mid, Fog, by necessity has embraced his move to a high half forward come pressure forward role with occasional sojourns in the middle. He epitomises the modern pressure forward role. Great work rate and game smarts allows him to get to the right spots defensively. While he is not a great goal scorer, his creativeness is still undersold, setting up plenty of goals. We have to content ourselves that he is limited as a finisher, struggling to kick further than 40 metres.

Love that he has been able to reinvent himself. The modern game requiring big bodied power mids seemed to be going past him until he embraced the “small forward” role. The footy world has slowly learned to embrace the growing need for defence and pressure in the front half and our Fog is now unobtrusively shaping as one of the best in the business.

Congrats Fog., our small forward mix is still work in progress, but it would seem you have made one spot your very own.

Well summarised CB. V impressive turn around story and well rewarded.

Adrian Hickmott and Justin Murphy both finished up for us in 2003. Murphy played one game for us in 2001, went to Geelong in 2022 back to us in 2003 and then on to *.

Hickmott was as tough as they come and a great pick up, Murphy on the other hand.

The Old "Geelong don't lose any good players" adage is under threat. Fog, Clark at freo and McCarthy at the lions have all been handy pick ups.

Murphy was good for us until he did his knee in the 99 GF.

He played 1 game 2000, was at cats 2001, then with us 2002/03. By that time having an unaccountable mid half forward made him look rather terrible in terrible sides.
