I was hoping Cripps would make it to the Bloods ... at Pick #15.

C4, is that The Game?? I always thought he was a West Coast Crip???

It is The Game ... and he's a South Side Compton Blood.

Wow, I did not know that.

Still reckon Westside is one of the greatest rap songs of all time.....just slightly behind Tupac's Hit Em Up.

Im seriously doubting the blokes we got running the show at Carlton can claim to have the greatest eye for talent.

McCarthy better prove himself to be a dud!

What happened to wanting to find players to run and spread? I could beat Cripps beep test score!!

You take under-age testing results with a grain of salt. They are kids and aren't professional. They are all training differently and all at different levels of physical development. It means stuff all.

We are past drafting good ordinary players with early picks and athletes who have poor skills and aren't physical or hard at the contest. Plenty of gems like Dane Swan and Cameron Ling who were drafted as bad athletes.

Since Rogers has been in charge we've drafted well.

You waste a lot of picks and early picks if you draft for needs (see 2010 draft) or draft on draft camp testing.

We are already short on midfielders. If we don't start getting some good midfielders in we will be as good as St Kilda are now in 4 years time, or we could go the other way and build another chance at being a top side. Games are won and lost in the middle. Plenty of teams have won flags in the last 10 years with good ordinary tall forwards.

We aren't that desperate for talls, we drafted one who is as good as any around IMO, it's not a talented pool of talls, next year is, we are better off waiting. There is no worse footballer than a tall who can't play.

Good call by the club. Went the way Emma Quayle thought we should which is always a good sign.

Just keep in mind his fitness would have been affected by having broken his leg a year or so ago. Plenty of room for improvement in that case.

What a cutie.

Going to fit in well with the Lygon street crew in Murph, Gibbsy and Sugar :thumbsu:

Was initially hesitant with the selection but those tapes look fairly impressive. Has that ability to read the tap down and then follow up to link on the outside. Very reminiscent of many of the Sydney mids in Kennedy, Hannebury and Parker.

In fact, his highlights reel is no less impressive than that of Kelly or Sheed.

Welcome old pal :thumbsu:

Welcome, Patrick :thumbsu:

Love this pick. Competitive beast and a clearance specialist who has the size to worry opponents from day 1.

On top of his on-field quality, and perhaps even more importantly, is his character. This is what is said to have ensured he rocketed up the order. Cripps is, from all reports, a terrific kid who understands what is required and is willing to push himself to be the best he possibly can. Endeared himself to our staff on the back of that and if he carries that through his career it won't be long before the supporters follow suit.

Can absolutely see him becoming a leader at the club within a few seasons. Partner him with Judd at every opportunity so he can learn first hand off the champ before he hangs up the boots in a few years time.

Very sensible selection. We need the next generation of midfielder to take over from the likes of Judd, Carrazzo, McLean and Cripps looks to be a fantastic addition.

Will be very interesting to see if he's unleashed at senior level straight up or if he has to bide his time at VFL level first. Looking forward to seeing him ply his trade.

On that part, you're wrong. I'm leaving it at that without going into detail. If you want more, feel free to PM me.

They nailed the Bootsma attitude/aptitude issue. They nailed Kane Lucas. They were very much in favor of Yarran though thought it would take a good five years for that pick to pay off and they were among those who said that if the knee was fine Menzel was the pick of the draft from a skill, work ethic and attitude perspective.

They're NOT perfect. The one BIG miss that they had was Bower. He thought Bower was going to be an All-Australian CHB/HBF for the majority of his career.
No offfence, but I'd back the new regime.

The club thinks the next draft has better talls available.

Thanks Jerimias :thumbsu:

Good read on Cripps and makes alot of sense to snaffle him I reckon
bTW is he a relation to the crispps fella (stk ) years ago who had is drink thrown away all over the place on field must have been about 98 ? Was pretty funny at the time :D

Hello Josh Kennedy mk 2.

Watch everyone's tune change when he gets 20 touches and 10 clearances in his first game.
We desperately need classy big midfielders.

We drafted well. 2nd or 3rd best tall in the draft. The only other reasonable tall went to brisbane (available at our pick).

We did really well.

You mean watch everyones claws come out when he DOESN'T get 20 touches and 10 clearances in his first game!

Really good summary, Jeremias.

The new regime that relies on the same head WA scout network that was under the old one. You do realize that right? Their scouting set up in WA has had very little change over the past several years. Go right ahead. At least the inner brains trust has improved and that's where it matters most.

I agree with much of what Jeremias has said. Source said the same about his character and work ethic. Slight preference to McCarthy - who was my guy - but perhaps we're a little biased given the WAFL roots. Nothing against Cripps at all and could well prove to be the better selection. Has the mental make up to thrive at the AFL level away from home.

I suspect Cripps will start in the VFL given the amount of incoming players who will be expected to fulfill roles that influence the midfield (Thomas, Docherty and Everitt). However, he may surprise and earn a spot from day dot. That would be a mega bonus but not to be expected.

Different head recruiter who has the final say.

:p

Rogers appears to favour self starters over the players Hughes picked. In terms of drive and intensity, they appear to be more like Kreuzer than Hampson.

That would really surprise, given the club don't think he'll have the fitness to play 1s until at least the second half of the season.

I think a lot hinges on what Scotland does (will he continue to play AFL or whether they just put him in the VFL)

We also played Nick Duigan in the finals and he may make way for Docherty.

McInnes is no certainty to hold his spot either.

But I also think you are right, probably won't see Cripps debut until the time is right.
