Nice get for the tiges. Ive said it before but no marketing team in their right mind would make a major sponsorship announcement whilst a major sporting event like the Australian Open is the focus of the media. Post Australian open there will be a media vacuum to exploit.

I would aslo imagine they might like to get the Punt Road oval re-development to be close to completion which must be close also.

This pre-occupation with jumpers is ridiculous (sorry if anyone takes offense but it is). The team jumpers can be prepared inside of a week, and would be prepared before any announcement is made. You just dont sign a contract and turn up the next day to announce it. The merchandise would take 2-3 weeks to get into the market becasue of the larger numbers but could start production at the same time as the deal is signed prior to an announcement. Marketing and promotion wheels will be turning well well before any actual announcement.

Having a sponsor for the NAB cup or the All-stars game would be niether here nor there for a major sponsor deal over multiple years. 1/2 the teams are out after 1 week of the NAB cup and the All-stars game is being broadcast on ABC1 which means, outside of the jumper logos, the ABC will purposefully avoid as much advertising as possible. I'd expect TV ratings to be medicore at best.

So really i'd say richmond have a fair while to get a deal done for a major sponsor. And they will have one before the season kicks off so all will be fine.

Good to see Signet jumping on board, its another step in the right direction. As for the major sponsor, I couldn't give a rats if we enter the season without one for I'd rather wait and get the best possible deal for the club rather than just sign up with anyone just so we had a sponsors name on the jumper for the start of the season. As the old saying goes good things come to those who wait.

The natives are getting restless on a number of fronts:
  • Why do we not publish the values? [big motivator by other clubs for their supporters]
  • Are we embarassed by the value of these sponsorships?
  • We are tempted with the carrot of another announcement but we are so far disappointed with the magnitude of the sponsors
  • Are we likely to get a major?
  • We have a massive supporter base!
  • We have the best location!
  • We have the biggest upside in the comp [IMO]
  • On this basis, we should not cave to an inferior sponsorship proposal
  • Love the insight and interaction from the club with RFCO, however we also need our expectations set at a level we can at least then accept.
I am speaking for the natives only, if you are not a native then see this as a rant

cheers,

Who set the expectations?

I do.

Or the panda does.

OK, mostly the panda.

Either way...Late January, no major sponsor...Signing a sponsor for the sleeve of the media polo is great, but inevitably will be a letdown for people looking for the (increasingly overdue) main prize.

I rate your work very highly and do not like to critique, however when a thread is put out as "A sponsorship Announcement", it builds excitement and anticipation of a major sponsor given the bit part player that the RFC has played in sponsorship circles when compared with our key Melbourne competitors over a number of years.

Looking through this thread a lot of people have been aniticipating a major sponsor announcement, however this has not been the case and we are met with another sleeve sponsor announcement.

Social media marketing is based on creating emotion, I would suggest [albeit in my humble opinion] that the RFC should consider labelling threads based on sponsorship size. ie. A major sponsorship announcemnt imminent, a valuable sponsorship announcement coming, a partnership announcement upcoming.

May sound like semantics, however valid when dealing with human emotions.

cheers,

First of all, appreciate the kind words.

Secondly, I posted this thread initially because at the time (December) it was a major announcement for us. A long-term sponsorship deal the biggest in the club's history, I thought it was fairly worthy of a little tease.

I haven't alluded to any new sponsorship news since then (I didn't mention anything of this Signet deal) because I knew what it was, and didnt want to get everyone riled up over something that I thought the majority on here would find as a 'let down' and thats basically been the reaction.

When there's news, you'll know. Until then, I'll keep quiet on this topic as there's no point in me getting involved when I myself don't even know for sure.

I try to keep you guys informed as I can and will continue to do so, I hope!

Are you referring to ME Bank or Signet?
If its referring to ME Bank do you mean the length of the sponsorship or the dollar value? How come no figures were released? It seems most of, if not all clubs give some sort of figure.

ME Bank

Not sure why no figures were released, powers higher than me decided that. I'm just the middle man.
