Tuned in briefly to see some Aussie chick take a magnificent diving catch in the deep, wondered who she should replace in the mens team...switched back to channel nine back to watch Doherty miss the side of a barn door with a throw. Twas an interesting juxtapostion!

The quality of the game - that I saw - was actually ok I thought.

The women aren't as powerful obviously and the batsman will take the fielder's arm on every time but cricket as a game of skill doesn't suffer as much as watching women's soccer where the pace of the game makes it unwatchable.

I thought some of the batting techniques on display were quite good, and some of the bowling techniques... not quite so good. IMHO, intensity in the field could probably be lifted, too.

Overall, though, I'd like to see more games getting televised. I definitely prefer to see women's cricket compared with, say, netball or basketball... even if those sports have a higher general standard.

Women's cricket is definitely getting better each year. I don't think it will ever be a major sport in Australia, but with the standard getting better, and a little bit more profile, it could still become quite popular. The explosion of digital channels means the stations are looking for more content.

they were only in standard amount, but i don't know how big manuka oval is.

sorry to de-rail this thread a little but this is why i think that womens sport in general is a lot shitter than mens sport.

sure they are not as athletic, powerful and skilled at the elite level but the organisers/ administrators could make modifications to the fields, balls and rules to make it more interesting.

example being why is the basketball hoop shorter, bring the 3 point and foul lines in, in cricket why is the boundary around 50 metres? and you can go on forever.

ill be brutally honest and say that i dont realy like watching womens sports but maybe if they had these modifications you could see women doing what the men do ie: slam dunks, 3 points, hitting sixes etc etc

thoughts?

your probably right but i'd way say most women within women's sports want to compete in the same conditions as the men... then you have golf where they tee off from different tees.

it's a bit of a fine line.

Women's basketball operates under the same measurements as men on the height of the ring (10ft), and width (50ft for pro, 49.21ft for international) and length (94ft for pro, 91.86ft for international) of the court are pretty much the same too. The distance of the three point (20.5 feet for pro/international, 19.75 feet for college/high school) is slightly closer, but the free throw line (15ft from the basket for pro, 15.09ft for international) is uniform for both men and women.

The US pro leagues for both men (NBA) and women (WNBA) have slightly larger court sizes than other leagues worldwide and international play, but the basket only gets lowered and the free throw line made closer at like U/8s level, irrespective of gender, and that's the way it should stay IMO.

There are women who can dunk, but it's obviously nowhere near as common as it for men. There's plenty of male players 5'10"-6'2" (the average height for female basketballers) who can't/don't dunk regularly as well. Basketball isn't all about dunking anyway, so I don't think it detracts from the women's game at all.

And three point shots are just as common in the women's game as they are in the men's, so I don't know what you're talking about there.

:D

most of the women shoot 3 pointers look like there shooting a cannon from their chest, which obviously means its to far out and i would rather see a dunk than a 5 ft girl laying one up on a 10 ft ring thats all im saying.

id say there would be hardly any 6 foot nothings that cant dunk in the NBA, iverson was small and he got up there if he needed to
